OC Republican allegedly sent offensive Obama email

LOS ANGELES – A Southern California Republican Party official was under fire Saturday after allegations she sent an email that included an altered photo depicting President Barack Obama as an ape.

An e-mail reportedly sent by party central committee member Marilyn Davenport shows an image, posed like a family portrait, of chimpanzee parents and child, with Obama's face artificially superimposed on the child. Text beneath the photo reads, "Now you know why no birth certificate."

Davenport, when reached by The Associated Press, said she would provide a written statement with her response, but several hours later she had not issued one.

Davenport has already gone on record as supporting another local pol who said not to plant grass near the beach, "it attracts Mexicans".

The photo and Davenport are not defensible.

Here’s a link to the local CBS news station - they came to the big local Tea Party event at my friend Kevin McGary’s house in NoCal. I was talking with Kevin as the reporter asked for the interview - he and Bridget Bell Melson (who’s run the Pleasanton Tea Party since its inception) are featured in the video piece. Kevin also happens to be black, something that surprised the reporter, given the conservative nature of the group. He’s also very involved in the Frederick Douglass Society, and is working to bring the message of conservatism and self-determination to the inner city. He’s one of the real good guys:
