Block Righthaven Clients BlockSite for Chrome (Bloggers) The new Google Chrome feature, Personal Blocklist, does not solve the Righthaven-Newspaper alliance problem for webmasters and forum board operators. For individual bloggers, however, it's a handy tool to avoid seeing (and clicking on) any search results from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Denver Post and Salt Lake Tribune. Download and review set up instructions here.

BlockSite for FireFox (Power Users)

1. Install the following FireFox plugin: BlockSite, by Erik van Kempen. 2. If you are on a Windows-based machine, go to: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad. Leave Notepad open, you will need to return shortly. 3. Return to your browser and Copy (CONTROL + C) the below list (just between the dashed lines, do not include the dashed lines). Return to Notepad and Paste (CONTROL + V). 4. This puts the list in Notepad. Now pick File, Save in Notepad, and save the file in My Documents with the file name RightHavenBlockList.txt. 5. Next go to: Tools > Add-ons in your copy of FireFox and click the Preferences button for the BlockSite add-on. 6. Make sure the blacklist radio button is selected and use the import button to import your list from My Documents\RightHavenBlockList.txt. 7. Enable BlockSite, warning messages, and link removal.

I don't get it. You want folks to not see these papers, simply because Righthaven says so?

What part of "Free Republic" are you missing?

Just thought I would add this here too, you can achieve the same results for your entire computer rather than a specific browser by modifying the local hosts file. So that any time these sites are looked up it just gets redirected to the local loopback address:

ON windows systems:

Similar on linux systems:

I think I’d use it to block the NY Slimes, Washington ComPost, and The UK Guardian for starters.

One advantage to BlockSite is you notice that the links are dead, or your browser gives you a shout-out about them.

I just bagged two Stephens articles on the main page.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal has made its loathing of Harry Reid very clear. Why do you dislike the Review-Journal?

I don't use Chrome much, though I have it. As you pointed out, it can be annoying & invasive.

The guy just wrote instructions for BlockList for Chrome. Don't be shooting the messenger, boyo...

Heh,
you got a point, but you’re not the first to make it...
try my solution, works on Windows, OSX, Linux, and EVERY browser used on those OSes.

Semirelated, there are alternatives to using GoogleChrome, my preferred one atm is ChromePlus, http://www.chromeplus.org/ , built off the chromium browser base, but without the google tracking.
