The headline writer here is obviously mistaken. Giuliani, in all likelihood, is not the first Republican to be the guest speaker at a Cornell commencement, just the first in quite a number of years.

Cornell goes back to the nineteenth century and its vicinity, rural and small-town upstate New York, had been traditionally Republican from the Civil War until recent decades. Furthermore, college campuses in general and Ivy League campuses in particular were not particularly dominated by leftists until the Vietnam era.

This bleating about "being first" sounds more like it comes from self-absorbed Rooty the Loser than it does from the college....as a way to kick-start yet another run.

He must have a lot of money left over from the Twin Towers Foundation he started after 911 managed by his then-mistress (now his third wife)----that nobody knows what happened to.

It sounds like he’s the first “since 1984”.

Long time.

He will likely be booed as a “fascist”. Hell they’d probably boo liberal democrats as “corporate neocons” if they differ from the Maoist orthodoxy on one policy point.

Point of information: prior to 1984 Cornell did not have outside commencement speakers. The University President has always delivered the sole address. Then, in. 1984, the campus began adding a separate, guest, speaker to the convocation ceremony. Rudy is the first republican convocation speaker because there were no convocation speakers before 1984
