PRINCETON, NJ -- Half of Americans believe the amount they pay in federal income taxes is too high, while 43% consider it about right and 4% too low. The 50% now calling their taxes "too high" is within the 46% to 53% range found each year since 2003. It is significantly lower than the 65% recorded in 2001, prior to implementation of former President George W. Bush's first round of federal tax cuts.

Could ANYBODY at Gallup bother to equate this 43% with the 45% that PAY NO FEDERAL INCOME TAXES!

We’re on the lower end of the income level but somehow paid in more than 2/3rds again what we used to pay. Pay going down, prices going up, and taxes out of control. Hope and change. Yeah, hope I have enough change to get by these days.

If our taxation were fair and equitable, 100% would claim it’s too much.

I must assume that 4% of all tax returns came in with extra payments because these taxpayers believe their rates are “too low.”

What? No? You don’t say...

Not so fast.

I know a liberal couple who cleared $200,000 last year, and paid their share of taxes without any fluky deductions, just their home mortgage, his business, and their 4 dependent children. They think they are under-taxed and should be taxed higher.

Liberalism is a mental disease. It truly is.

When you have 25% real unemployment and an aging country it’s easy to see where 45% don’t pay taxes. Add up those that are employed by government at every level, on “entitlement” or receive subsidies and it’s easy to see why we’re insolvent and probably not coming back.

We’ve been living an economic illusion for decades.

For about five or six years now, Massachusetts income tax returns have had a box that allows bleeding heart do-good loudmouth moonbats to opt to pay at a rate of 5.85% instead of 5.3%. The rate was reduced from 5.85% to 5.3% and after moonbat outcry ("women, children and minorities hardest hit!"), Citizens for Limited Taxation got a bill passed to have them put their money where their mouths are.

I don't believe the number of people who opt for the higher rate has ever broken 1%. Or got close to it.

I am a Massachusetts resident, and it would be a cold day in Hell before I would check it.

I find the mere presence of the check box to be an affront, except for the fact that it highlights a nice piece of liberal hypocrisy.

That was the entire point of CLT's bill. They wanted to call the left's bluff, and year after year the actions of the liberals on their tax returns are contrary to their blather everywhere else. I've asked a few haughty liberals if they check the box and have yet to get an intelligble answer as to why they don't if they are so concerned about _fill in the blank_.

There would be snowboarding in Hell before I checked it, too.
