Senator Collins, Colleagues Introduce Legislation to End Workplace Discrimination

WASHINGTON, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Susan Collins, along with her colleagues Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Mark Kirk (R-IL), and Tom Harkin (D-IA), have introduced the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) to finally prohibit job discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Senator Collins has long been a strong supporter of this legislation.

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2011 would prohibit employers, employment agencies, labor organizations and joint labor-management committees from firing, refusing to hire, or discriminating against those employed or seeking employment, on the basis of their perceived or actual sexual orientation or gender identity. Such protections are already in place prohibiting discrimination based on race, religion, gender, national origin, age, and disability.

“Our legislation affirms the principle that individuals should be judged solely on their skills and abilities,” said Senator Collins. “Similar to the current law in several states, including Maine, and the policies of many Fortune 500 companies, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act would close an important gap in federal civil rights laws by making it illegal to discriminate in employment based on sexual orientation.” More than 85 percent of Fortune 500 companies already extend workplace protections based on sexual orientation and more than one-third on the basis of gender identity.

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act has been endorsed by national civil rights organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, the ACLU, labor organizations and more than 75 Fortune 500 companies.

“In today's economy job security is important to all Americans, especially LGBT people who can be fired for no other reason than their sexual orientation or gender identity," said HRC President Joe Solmonese. "Passing ENDA is essential to ensuring that all Americans have an equal opportunity to work and contribute to this country's economy. I commend Senators Merkley, Kirk, Harkin and Collins for their leadership and commitment to ENDA.” ###

How about ending job discrimination by making all states “right to work”??? Unions discriminate against non-union employees.

That's an excellent point. Well done and bravo!

Forced unionism is the current day slavery with tribute being needlessly paid through coercion to DemonRAT causes.

And for those who haven't seen my occasionally-posted pair of maps, compare and contrast those states where workers have liberty, enjoy true freedom and vote for the Palin ticket against those under the thumb of union thugs who opted for the current, one term _resident.

I hear the sound of the pitter patter of little feet as business owners run to other countries.

As always, special rights for some, but not for all...

Bill Levitt, the innovative builder (ex-Navy SeaBee) behind affordable suburban housing, summed unions up well with these statements:

Unions exist for the protection of the slowest and least efficient worker.

All men are created equal but all men are not equal. Some are more talented and some compensate for their lack of talent by working harder. As for those neither talented nor hardworking, that's where unions come in.

Wanna avoid a layoff? Just notify your employer that you are a faggot or dyke, and then they know they will be risking a "sexual orientation discrimination" lawsuit if they get rid of you.

Some are protected by the 14th Amendment, but straight white heterosexuals are not!

NONSENSE.
What gives you the right to force an American to work with or to hire a pervert?
Will you force schools to hire known or admitted pedophiles?
If not why not?
What makes one perversion better then the other?

DISCRIMINATION WORKS..........
Do we hire a drunk to fly an airplane?
Do we hire a know rapist to work in a school?
The list is endless.....
We discriminate everyday for a reason.
