Keith Olbermann lacks class, tact
The Oklahoma Daily ^ | Wednesday, April 20, 2011 | Sage Maudlin (worst pseudonym ever)

Keith Olbermann is not a man but a mongrel—a cross between a Shih Tzu and a bull terrier. There’s nothing appealing about him. He’s incredibly masochistic, he can’t keep a job, and he’s one of the most hated talking heads in the media today.

After a conversation occurring on “The Joy Behar Show,” he posted a couple of incredibly slanderous, demeaning, rude and crass Twitter messages about S.E. Cupp, who was part of Behar’s panel.

Most politicians and talking heads would refuse to respond as he did in fear of being fired from their high paying jobs or sued for defamation of character, but Olbermann has remained unapologetic for the past week.

What I’m wondering is how long will this loser continue to possess the get-out-of-jail free card? After all, what he said about Cupp was entirely uncalled for.

If you don’t know, Cupp is a regular contributor to the New York Daily (News), the host of “The S.E. Cupp Show” and is regularly seen on Fox News sharing her opinion as a pundit.

Olbermann doesn’t have a kind bone in his body, which is unfortunate. Really, he’s nothing short of uncouth and disrespectful. He never likes anyone on television who has an opposing opinion — which actually makes sense.

By now, you’re probably curious what Olbermann posted on Twitter and what Cupp did to provoke Olbermann. On Behar’s show on April 14, Cupp and Jerry Springer were invited to be guest panelists to converse — more so to argue — with Behar about Planned Parenthood and other pertinent issues.

A couple minutes into the conversation, Behar made a statement to Cupp, “Stop pretending that it’s just about fiscal issues when you know that you’re hiding your social agenda. There also, look at the Planned Parenthood thing; they practically stopped the budget from going through. We almost had a governmental shutdown because of abortion.”

So, naturally, Cupp, being a fiscal conservative and pro-lifer, was not too fond of Behar’s view; she rebutted, “The Democrats almost had a governmental shutdown because they refused to allow cuts in spending for Planned Parenthood. You can point fingers at either side.”

On Thursday, I was on Twitter, checking updates from the people I follow, when Olbermann posted a tweet obviously directed at Cupp. It read, “On so many levels she’s the perfect demonstration of the necessity of the work Planned Parenthood does.” This tweet was obviously supposed to insult Cupp and her fans by wishing Cupp dead. This is never acceptable, but like I said, Olbermann loathes people with opinions in opposition to his.

When a person backpedals, it’s disorienting and never makes sense, so when Olbermann posted, “I said no such thing. Only 3% of planned parenthood’s work is abortions. Unless you’re moron Jon Kyle,” and “I have never mentioned abortion. I said her parents should have used counseling by [Planned Parenthood] rather than get the results they did,” people were confused and grew more enraged, sending Olbermann more responses.

My beef with Olbermann is how awful for him to hide behind the abortion issue in order to attack a woman. I may be a pro-lifer, but I know how personal abortion is, and in no way would I ever use abortion as a weapon to insult a woman or cowardly suggest someone’s birth was a mistake, simply because I didn’t agree with his or her opinion. Although America protects free speech, it’s time for our society to take some responsibility for their words.

In all seriousness, good on you Sage. Nice to see the resistance is thriving in the OU student body.

Also: Barak Obama was born in Hawaii, and is now witholding his birth certificate, because he believes the controversy is helping him politically.

In the America I grew up in, free speech was assured, but no one would protect you from a punch in the mouth if you got stupid.

You know, I remember not only when he was on ESPN, but before that, when he was a local sports guy in Los Angeles, and he wasn’t always like this. At least not on camera. I’m not surprised both he and Stephanopoulos got into general news and commentary. I’m surprised that George turned out to be less irritating to watch.

Olbermann is now reduced to trading barbs with Joy Behar and Jerry Springer. How's that career path working out for him?

S.E. Cupp? Is that a bra size?

Cupp is one of those rare ladies (Tina Fey is another) who look better in glasses, but somebody needs to hit her to the fact that funbags and ties do not mix.

Contrary to what the left has told us about Planned Parenthood,... Olberdork is basically omitting/confirming all that Planned Parenthood does is abortions....

I seem to recall that Obie was irritating even when he was on ESPN. Major pompous ass know-it-all. One of these days, someone is not going to take too kindly to his b-s and he’s going to end up in the hospital or worse.

He was actually quite funny and likable when he was on locally in LA and when he was on ESPN. He has this whole schtick now, like BIll Maher, of being the smart - ass, punk kid. It’s really distasteful. Pat Sajak had him on his talk show years back, and he says he can’t believe what Olberman has become.

Olbermann thinks he's helping his argument when he uses the oft-quoted statistic that "only" 3% of PP's procedures are abortions. In fact, PP typically does not break out its full abortion statistics. It performs 300,000 abortions annually. It receives $300mm in government funding. The average cost of each procedure is $450. Therefore, PP's total income from abortions is ~ $140m. PP's total "health center income" is $350m. That is roughly 37%. PP's PAC gives roughly $15-20mm to pro-choice candidates annually. Olberdork is a useful idiot for the pro-life cause, since most of these numbers are swept under the rug by the mainstream media. The more he talks, the more informed the voting public is likely to become.
