It really is insidious when you think about it.
I was in college when I began to understand that I wasn’t getting a real education. After college I stayed curious and read widely. When I investigated homeschooling, in the early 90s, things really started to cook and become much more clear. Reading about the history of public schools was a real eye opener.
That is one of the things that worries me about all this internet book stuff. Would people be able to find interesting non-pc off the beaten path information? I am not too sure about that.
May the Lord have mercy on His children.
I’m not disagreeing with you, but who do you reference when you say *them*? I wasn’t trying to start an intergenerational warfare, that’s exactly what I was trying to avoid. However, apparently I didn’t finish my though in my first post (I just went back and read it, I was talking to someone while writing), and now understand the confusion.
The problem is one of personal accountability. All generations need it. I blame mine for the loss of the judicial system, largely, and the coming police state. What I was saying in my initial post, is that the politicians capitalize on the welfare system (largely expanded on in the Baby Boomer era), and that it left little to nothing left for the generations coming up today (Let’s face it, we went broke during that era, now we’re so far past broke, the numbers are unimaginable). They are using that fact to rally the younger crowd who is angry that there is nothing left, to try and turn them on the older folks and build a new world order, claiming that “Capitalism” (We haven’t had in ages) doesn’t work.
I hope that that puts my original comment into context. Many, many of the older folks (Boomers included) are waking up to realize that the game is up. So are many of the younger generation, I didn’t mean to lay everything at the feet of Boomers. I’ve explained my position many times on many thread, unfortunately I didn’t complete my thought here. I’ve said over and over, I have hope, and faith that we’ll come out, and that people are waking up. But that doesn’t mean that EVERY generation hasn’t neglected their duty, The seeds were planted in the Civil War, but didn’t really set until the early 1900’s. But it grew for about 80 years, and now we’re seeing the fruit. But in that 80 or so years, a whole lot could have been done by the very large “Baby Boomer” group, that largely drank the Kool Aid. That’s the essence of what I was saying.
Back to my initial question, who did you mean by the *them*?
I believe in homeschooling too, for a variety of reasons, but foremost because I don’t like the indoctrination that goes on in them, second there is no real education, it’s like babysitting (well, it is babysitting for the most part, there are highschool kids who cannot READ).
“May the Lord have mercy on His children.”
Amen!
First let me say I like your use of the phrase Baby Boomer Era. I think it’s a better way to think about it. I also agree there is plenty of blame to go around if we want to go there, but it’s not particularly useful anymore (and I don’t think that’s what you’re doing, just making a general point because it seems where so many want to go—but it’s just a waste of energy).
When I say *them* I mean politicians and the architects of the socialist destruction of the United States, there have been many. Most of the population really doesn’t understand the parts they have played themselves. Some things seem like good ideas when you have only a tiny bit of information and are poorly educated.
I had a conversation with a friend today somewhere else on a different topic, but one that involved govt overreaching. Instead of starting a fight with her I just pointed some things out. We discussed, and by the end, she actually said she had jumped the gun and she agreed with my point. I would say she was just trying to shut me up, but she did so in writing, publicly. So, I do believe it’s possible to sway people with well made arguments if you don’t make them angry first. But, if the first thing you do is make them angry you make the job a lot harder. I wonder sometimes if we have people who frequent FR who are NOT on our side but whose purpose is to do exactly that—create dissention in the ranks and to keep us fighting among ourselves about unimportant things.
:)
“Perhaps the Boomers feel this way because most of them got rich through hard work, not inheritance.”
Actually, most got rich because they chose to keep tax rates low for themselves (relative to what they demanded government spend) and then throw a HUGE chunk of debt at their kids.
This is really ridiculous.
Has this forum become a bastion of crying whining under 45 year olds blaming everything on anyone older
I’m 53 and work very very hard to provide for a large family and plan to leave all the asshat govt doesn’t take to them and wifey.
Much of Obama’s financial team are post Boomers and nearly all the programs that are killing us are from back as far as Wilson
or maybe even Abe and his far reach of a central guv
or even Andy...I mean really
