Recount unnecessary

Editorial

April 20, 2011

JoAnne Kloppenburg certainly had the right to ask for a statewide recount on Wednesday.

But we had hoped that she wouldn't - and the state would be better off if she hadn't.

We understand the motivation. The final county-by-county canvassing of the state Supreme Court election revealed that Justice David Prosser won a narrow victory, a reflection of how polarizing the new governor and his policies have become. The heat generated by the controversy over those policies most likely spurred the significant turnout for a spring nonpartisan election and a 7,316-vote win for Prosser - less than 0.5% of the 1.5 million votes cast.

That's slim, but it's not likely that a statewide recount will change the outcome. Were it a margin in the hundreds of votes, perhaps, but Kloppenburg has to recognize that it's not.

The state Government Accountability Board says it is ready for a recount; the board had anticipated that one would be requested. But it is already requesting some $40,000 extra to deal with a possible 16 recall elections anticipated as a result of some senators leaving the state to avoid a vote on Gov. Scott Walker's collective bargaining proposals and other senators voting for them.

Earlier, the GAB said a statewide recount in the Supreme Court race might cost as much as $1 million. Given that the state is already scrambling in its current budget to make ends meet and that the next budget won't be any prettier, this is an expense the state can ill afford...

[I’m betting the final count will increase the lead...that is why the paper doesn’t think it is a good idea.]

A recount might also uncover election fraud in counties and precincts controlled by pro-union Democrats.

FROM DAILY CALLER:

. . .Of an estimated more than 10,000 ballots in Dane County, Wisconsin, where the state capital Madison is, voters selected only a pick in the Supreme Court race, while leaving even the hotly contested mayoral and county executive choices blank. That raises red flags for election experts like Scott St. Clair of the Freedom Foundation, a conservative think tank. . .

Why not? It’s free tax payer money. If there is a shortfall they can just cut government services. Thanx JoAnne. I wonder who is footing the bill for Kloppenberg’s lawyers?

Between the 2 major papers in the state...the Milwaukee Urinal-Sentinal and The Wisconsin State Urinal, The Urinal-Sentinal is the “fair and balanced” paper. Neither one deserves to be call a newspaper.

She looks like the wicked witch of the west.

If the dems would have run a normal looking person, Prosser loses.

They will spend 10s of millions on lawyers.

She's a lawyer, she will pay her a million.

7,317 is a slim margin. But when Klopple won by 204, it was a great victory. Surely the people of WI can see hypocrisy this big and this ugly.

Actually one of the best things that can happen! Let these Democrats show themselves for what they are! Definitely NOT law abiding, not abiding to the people’s vote, let them complain to their chickens come home.

Wisconsin seems to be the catalyst for future changes in America...so be it...

She may have the "right" to request a recount on the tax-payers back. But, to be frank, we in this state cannot afford it. Her political posturing is an exercise in stupidity and futility. She is only furthering the effort being made by the left to bankrupt this state into socialism.

They just had to get a dig in at Gov. Walker. What’s surprising is that after all the union whining and screaming, they still couldn’t beat Prosser - even with all the dead guys and illegals voting.

If this is the first time you’ve seen what Kloppenburg looks like then you’ve missed the video of her “victory” speech.

It’s amazing how these Communists operate in the open, doing thier revolutionary duties, undermining and subverting whatever they choose, in full view of all, while they hide behind whatever cute rhetoric resonates with the “voters”. (And it always works with at least 40% of them.)

IMHO
