And of course, they don’t tell Grandma that she can stay on the Medicare dole till she dies because Ryan’s plan would only affect those under 55 years old. Shame on these lying skunks.

Shouldn’t that the question be asked regarding Obamacare starting 2014?

I am getting into some heated arguments with the geezers lately.
But they always seem to quiet down a lot when I say “Hey don’t get upset when I refuse to pay for things you voted yourselves years ago- you had no business voting yourselves my money then, and now it is bankrupting the country”
This sometimes quiets the “we’re entitled” mindset.

A sense of shame keeps most people from doing shameful things. Rats are immune.

Aim this commercial at teenagers and young people in their 20s. How will you pay for your medical in your retirement since you will spend your lives paying interest on the national debt that your parents and grandparents ran up and Medicare will have collapsed by then?

I sometimes get into this same argument even with FReepers.
The standard line is “Hey, I paid into Social Security and Medicare all throughout my working years and so denying me the promised payout now is tantamount to theft.”
Folks need to understand that our unfunded entitlement programs, combined with our national debt, are theft by those collecting today from those working tomorrow.

Does eat the rich mean Solent Green? Maybe we could turn Dim pols into Solent Green. All in favor say aye. And for a little extra spice maybe add some rinos.

The standard line is Hey, I paid into Social Security and Medicare all throughout my working years and so denying me the promised payout now is tantamount to theft. I get into the same argument on these threads. The idea is so pervasive that people "paid into" a system and so someone "owes" them the money back. My questions to them is always "Who owes you this money?" The answer can't be "the government" because the government can't magically generate money. The people who spent the money--our parents and grandparents and prior generations--are dead. We aren't getting anything out of them. So do we borrow more and saddle our kids with debt? Or do we step up to the plate and pay as we go and live within our means?

They should show the silver-haired Florida retirees sitting on the lenai of their $750,000 condo in Naples fretting over Medicare.

"....of course, they dont tell Grandma that she can stay on the Medicare dole till she dies...." Actually that is part of the problem......Rarely does anybody ever respond to these spurious accusations missing a huge teaching opportunity to get the truth out to the electorate.
By not responding, the lies are allowed to spread and grow and become the popular perception...Like the old saying goes..."Perception is reality."

The truth is long and boring.
Lies are clever, quick, and sexy.
Truth-tellers are always at a disadvantage.

Just so. Whenever people say that “the Government” owes them money they need to be reminded that the Government does not earn money, only people with private sector jobs and investments do. If anyone is owed money then their debtor must be some other human beings.

Hey dont get upset when I refuse to pay for things you voted yourselves years ago ...
Unfair representation of the "geezers." They never voted directly for SS, Medicare, Medcaid just like they never voted for the VN war, the Great Society, etc.
What is true is that all that crap was "forced" on them by a Democrat majority government. Granted they voted them into office, but they were also sold a huge bill of goods (i.e. pie in the sky BS), that they believed.
And if you stop and think about it, those "geezers" back then had lived through the Depression, WWII, etc., and thought those programs would make their old age a little more secure and comfortable. Can you blame them? Both my "geezer" parents and "geezer" in-laws are gone now (three of the four were WWII vets), and those programs worked for them exactly as advertised.
What isn't emphasized enough is: 1) how the Libs have bastardized the entitlement programs so much that they're little more than welfare; 2) inclusion of millions of illegal aliens; 3) how the gov't has wasted TRILLIONS on crap like NASA, Dept of Education, Dept of Energy, foreign aid, etc.
It was those "geezers" who survived the Depression, saved the world from Fascism, and made life for their children relative heaven on earth in the greatest country the world has ever known.

“Republicans Voted to End Medicare: How Will You Pay? (DCCC scare-ad)”
Really? Yet it was the democratically controlled Congress who, just a year or so ago, voted to cut 1/2 Trillion out of Medicare during a 10 year period. Where’s your outrage now?
Go figure—but they’re “fighting for you”, right? Pffft!

The standard line is Hey, I paid into Social Security and Medicare all throughout my working years and so denying me the promised payout now is tantamount to theft.
The reality is they have been stealing it from us since at least 1968 when they took the wall out between the Trust Fund and the general fund. Some of us would argue the theft actually began in 1935.
To: rogue yam
1995 called. They want their scare tactics back.
And so does 1980.
