For Assad..., deploying the entire army is a wild gamble because more than 75 percent of Syria's 220,000-strong rank and file are Sunni Muslims, Kurds and Druzes.... ..... and therefore drawn from ethnic and religious groups long repressed by the Alawite-dominated regime. Uniformed troops might well flout orders to shoot live rounds into crowds of protesters who are members of their community or even family. It would start the break-up of the Syrian army amid large-scale defections of officers and men. Looks like this is as tribal as others....everyone jumps into the bandwagon and sides are chosen.

"Tanks firing artillery" Noting the depth of stupidity in reporting. Tanks have rounds, munitions, warheads, etc. But they do not fire "atillery". Artillery fires artillery rounds.

If its only muslims killing muslims, I can’t get too worked up over this. The brotherhood would no doubt be worse than Assad.

Imagine if Israelis treated Arabs the way their own governments do?
Where are human shields to protect the Syrian protesters?
Where are the loft denunciations from the EU, the World Court?
Where are the academic boycotts?
Don’t tell me they aren’t antisemites.

Just as in Libya and other areas of unrest the Muslim Brotherhood is active and involved in Syrias uprising. I have no doubt of this. There is an Iranian push throughout the ME. to upend the leadership and using the protestors of these nations to that desired end.. How successful this will be remains to be seen but there is no doubt more than the protestors are fueling this fire storm thru the Middle East.

Wow, someone we OUGHT kill is slaughtering his people, and the silence from White House and Europe is deafening...
Well, I’m glad we’re not getting involved, anyway. Now,, if we’d just ditch involvement in Libya...

If Syria occupied Lebanon for a decade or more, I don’t think the regime will have much trouble controlling the population of Syria. Assad was his Dad’s successor, and he evidently has no trouble with slaughtering his people in order to keep them under his thumb, especially if he can count on Iran’s help.

Hmmmm. Why is there an international uproar over Libya and not one over Syria? What makes these two countries so different?
Could it be oil.

Im still not sure why we should care who wins or loses in this fight. Both sides hate our guts and would cut our throats if given the chance.
