Former State Dept. spokesman joins Penn State By Daniel Strauss - 04/26/11 01:44 PM ET

Former State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley has accepted a research and teaching position at Pennsylvania State University.

Crowley resigned a little over a month ago after criticizing the Pentagon’s treatment of Pfc. Bradley Manning, the soldier accused of leaking sensitive government documents to WikiLeaks. Crowley criticized the Army intelligence analyst’s treatment as "ridiculous and counterproductive and stupid."

Crowley will research national security and diplomacy, according to a statement issued by the university.

“I will use current developments such as Guantánamo, WikiLeaks and the unfolding Middle East transformation to discuss how the U.S. deploys military, civilian, and economic power in a manner consistent with its values and interests,” Crowley said.

Crowley’s appointment will allow him to teach at Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law, where he will serve as the Omar Bradley Chair, as well as at the School of International Affairs. According to a tweet on Tuesday by Crowley, he will teach a class on course on "media and national security policy."

The Omar Bradley Chair's mission, the statement said, is to "advance the study of strategic leadership and enhance civilian-military dialogue by offering distinguished individuals the opportunity to contribute to the educational and research activities of the partner institutions."

Crowley's comments about Manning, who reportedly had been forced to sleep naked and stand naked in his cell in a brig at Quantico, Va., echoed those of human rights organizations and some Democrats.

The State Department recently announced Manning, who has been held for more than eight months, would be transferred to a lower-security facility at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

From one fluff job to another. These elitists don't ever go into any productive lines of work. We used to be a nation of producers; now we just study things to death and talk endlessly. No wonder the Chinese are gaining on us so rapidly.

Omar Bradley is rolling over in his grave. What the hell is wrong with Penn State? They have that global warming wacko Hockey Stick Mann as a professor, too.

Hillary has a Penn State connection via her father and brother. Did the SoS help PJ get his gig?

That’s a no-brainer. They all look after each other.

I am totally embarrassed by this, but Penn State has been going downhill since before I graduated. It got pretty bad during my freshman year and got steadily worse after that. I was told to my face I needed to “play the game” if I wanted to graduate. I never did.

If Penn State is shameless enough to retain “global warming” fraud Michael Mann and even go so far as to whitewash his lies, then that place will take anybody.

Anyway, sometimes it seems like the place has been taken over by the homos. I have been a “Lifetime Member” of the alumni association since graduation (mid ‘70s) and so I get ‘The Penn Stater’ every two months (or whatever the frequency is) and regular calls from student fundraisers. I haven’t opened my checkbook for Penn State since the ‘80s and will not open it until I see some sanity return to the university. I am not holding my breath.

It’s a shame, because I really loved that college and that town for the five years I lived there.

How dare they sully the name of General Omar Bradley in such a manner...putting a quisling in the chair or that school. I’m disgusted. There was a time when Penn State was a good school and in many ways, it still is. But when you pollute the professorial pool with the likes of Michael Mann and now this jerk, you tkae the name of the scholl down with it. Time to write Corbett, why should this schoolbe the benficiary of my tax dollars?

Hmmmm - sounds like that could be an interesting class to just sit in on... take some notes... share with friends and allies...
