Was “African” what Hawaiians usually put on 1961 birth certificates for a race?

Sigh. Not this again. Parents were allowed to classify their race however they wanted. If they didn't like any of the categories listed, they could check "other" and write whatever they liked.

Given that Obama Sr. was a pan-African nationalist, it isn't surprising that he preferred to classify himself as "African" rather than "negro" or "black" or whatever option Hawaii offered at the time.

To me it does not matter. Jack Maskell, the legislative attorney in the American Law Division of the Congressional Research Service while Obama is POTUS.

The point is why did nobody vet or check the Obama BC out?
If they had the memo would not have had to be written.

African is a nationality and not a race. Hawaii was a state then and the descriptor used would be "negro".

Wow. You're still pushing the "African" objection, years after it has been debunked. Amazing.

Yes, anchor babies are natural born citizens...that’s the entire problem but yes, they are recognized as NBC. Until that is changed in the US Constitution, that is the deal.

I suspect you need to go back and read what the law says. You may call it ludicrous, but if you are born in the United States on US soil, you are eligible to be POTUS.

You and others seem to be suggesting because his father wasn’t American that he can’t be President. THAT...is ludicrous. What are you going to tell a single mother that is an American but has a child here with no father listed on the birth certificate...is that child ineligible? Of course not. No different than having a father that’s from Kenya or wherever.

He was born in Hawaii, the birthers and their nonsense whack job crusade on this does NOTHING but benefit the liberals. It paints our size as a bunch of mouth breathing neanderthals that can’t shoot straight.

At the end of the day, if we can’t beat this clown in 2012 based on the absolute disaster that he is, then we don’t deserve to be in power. Focus on THE ISSUES, focus on what he’s done to cripple this economy, his expenditures, mandated healthcare (likely illegal), etc, etc....focusing on a birth certificate screams to everyone that we have a bunch of people on our side not ready to get serious and have tin foil hats on their heads. It brings down the conservative movement.

Requirements to be POTUS Twelfth Amendment states that: "[N]o person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States." The Fourteenth Amendment does not use the phrase "natural born citizen". It does provide that "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." He's eligible. Period. End of story. Stop the nonsense. Why Obama waited until today, Lord only knows. I'm just glad he came out with it now and didn't wait until 6 months before the election which would have really buried our chances. At least now the kooks on our side that believe this stuff have been totally marginalized and we can move on as a nation to try to DEFEAT Obama on real stuff, not conspiracy tin foil hat garbage.

Yes, and yes. But the question was, why has he spent millions to prevent its release. Not the same thing.

The "millions" birthers cite are the total legal bills paid to a law firm which handles legal matters for the campaign. It wasn't money all spent on birther lawsuits. So wrong on point 1.

The lawyers never filed a suit seeking to prevent release of the document. All they did was file the automatic motion to dismiss in response to other people's suits. So wrong on point 2.

Answer: He didn't.

His lawyers may not have initiated an action to prevent release, but they did get out of bed to respond to other people’s actions. I’m sure there were billable hours involved. How much is really immaterial although I’m sure those lawyers don’t work cheap.

None of those actions were simple demands to see the document. Responding to them is not the same thing as seeking to block the document.

The photo of the white one looks like it’s being waved around at a press conference. I’m sure they aren’t going to risk the “original” copy since it took them years to find. The white copy gives a little more contrast and if you look in the shaded areas on the left you can see the security features of the green original.

Really good copiers make really good copies. I was amazed at the difference between the high-end gov’t machines and the ragged out machines you find in other places.

The PDF from whitehouse.gov has mulitple objects but was not flattened. Three date stamps from Aug and April are separate objects. The doctor and registrar signatures are in a separate object. The word ‘None’ in box 17 has ‘Non’ on a separate object - you can see ‘e’ is a darker color.

Download a free copy of inkscape and open the file for yourself. Go to objects and click ‘ungroup’ several times. Then ‘select all’ and release the clip and masks.

This document was created, not scanned. It took about 30 seconds to deconstruct the document directly from whitehouse.gov
