Five of the six teenagers charged with driving a 15-year-old Irish girl to suicide after an unrelenting bullying campaign have struck a plea deal agreement with prosecutors.

Despite denying the original charges of stalking, harassment and civil rights violations causing bodily injury they have now agreed to admit to a misdemeanour charge of harassment, and in exchange prosecutors will drop the more serious charges against them.

Kayla Narey, Sharon Chanon Velázquez, Ashley Longe, Sean Mulveyhill, and Flannery Mullins, all of South Hadley High School, faced felony and misdemeanour charges.

You’re entirely right in that. Another major feature is that it has kids with extremely disturbing behavioral issues to terrorize other students. It’s feral now and not about concentrating on schooling, but concentrating on social networking. This is why China and other ‘Third World’ countries have us topped when ti comes to professional accomplishment.

Thankfully though they will have a record and will never be able to escape it. The charges will be there and there will be a conviction, something that will cripple their ability to get jobs and find decent spouses.

End the government school system, and we will go a long way towards reducing bullying.

I was shocked to learn of the kind of bullying that goes on in public schools. A co-worker of mine went to a large metro HS in the ATL area, and his very matter-of-fact description of physical assaults and relentless intimdation shocked me. I thank heavens for the sacrifice my parents made in sending me to private schools. The kids weren't perfect, and there was certainly a clique of "cool kids," but the worst they seemed to do to their social lessers was ignore them.

Bullying, or even energetic teasing, would never have been accepted, and if you tried it, you would have a very irate adult dragging your butt to the driveway to hand you back to your parents for good.

Really, want to back this up with links please. Sounds like you know something we all don't.

The poor girl was a mess from day one and initiated a lot of the trouble. There should be no charges at all.

So she was trouble & you know this how? And therefore she should die & nobody be charged? Shaking my head, so rape is ok etc? Because she was trouble she deserved to be raped & bullied until she killed herself.. I hope your links explain your sickening comments really well. Waiting for those links which are going to prove this 100%. Right?

Hate to spoil the fun, but this was a trumped up media frenzy. The poor girl was a mess from day one and initiated a lot of the trouble. There should be no charges at all.And that's an excuse for the girl's behavior? The other girls just HAD to retaliate? Someone made them do it?

They couldn't have just ignored her or reported her to the authorities?

Blaming the victim is the easy way out.

They would have never been charged in another country.

The young lady was promiscuous and took on the social network of a new school. She had sex with two boy friends of the alpha females. She put herself into a position where she was emotionally berated by these other kids.

The young lady was not mentally stable.
The young lady was an attention hound, who in the end, got all of the attention she was desiring.

Yes, the kids who berated her were nasty, horrible, assholes. But these cliques exist in all high schools. This stuff happens every single day.

It is unfair to other “similar” cases to use this case as the exemplar.

When these kids sign their book and movie deals we will finally hear their side of the story. You might want to withhold judgment until you hear both sides.

I live 15 miles from there. I know some of the players are the school. I know some of the players in the town.

This was a horrible incident, but there are gallons of blame to spread around to everyone.

Check out the links on the local papers:

http://www.masslive.com You will have to search for them, but the stories are there.

The Prince girl was not forcibly raped. She engaged in consensual sex with a boy about two years older than her. In most states, that charge of statutory rape would not have been made.

The Prince girl attempted suicide when she lived in Ireland.

Those are facts.

The girls was not mentally stable from the get go.

It amazes me that the people on Free Republic will question the media when they do not question Obama on things like a birth certificate, but they accept hook line and sinker all of the crap presented by the local media.

Is is interesting that the District Attny that brought all of the charges, ran out of town before any trial date. The new DA took one look at this mess and wanted to cut a deal.

There is nothing there.

The deal was cut to get the kids to admit to the harassment, which is all there really was.

Do these kids deserve a swift kick in the ass? Yes. Absolutely. But did they derserve jail time because they could not diagnose a mental condition that had been missed by almost all of the school counselors and administrators.

As I said, I live nearby. Think about it. You have a media market full of kids just out of college getting swept up in this national frenzy. They simply dug it and looked for every angle that would get a reaction. The local DA loved being on the front page and GMA, and the Today show.

Of course they were going to whip this thing up as hard as they could.

But if you talked to local people, people involved in the school, people who knew the kids, people that worked in the legal system, you would get hints of the real story.

After they get the deals signed, you will hear the other side of the story. Then, if you still think there was forcible rape, harassment beyond what goes on in high schools every damn day, and someone a homicide or manslaughter I will respect your opinion. But if you are basing your opinion on news stories alone, you are going to be horribly surprised.

No part of this is clean. No part of it is right. But no part of it is criminal.

Thank you for your information. We see a story a few months ago ( whatever) & its a sad one. Then we hear nothing until now. I feel badly for all involved. It would be nice if all the facts we stated the first time a story came out. And thank you for a very nice civil reply, have a great day!

So it's OK for two high-school superstuds to have sex with a much younger girl if she comes on to them? And then it's doubly OK for the older high-school girls who are their customary sexual partners to harass the younger one to death? If you honestly believe that, then I hope you don't have children or work with children.

If you think a 17 year old should be convicted of rape for sex with a willing 15 year old, I hope you don't have children or work with children. Or law enforcement.

There's a difference between approval of a kid's actions and ruining the kid's life by bringing in the cops.

Much younger? How long ago were you in high school?

The girl strolled into the school and immediately put herself out there for the boys. And yes, it pissed off some of the other girls.

And they did nothing in terms of harassment than what goes on every single day. The girl was, to put it bluntly, nuts.

Those of you who think it was rape, who think this girl was an innocent little bystander who just got picked on need to take a step back and evaluate the situation in real time, not in your 1980’s mindset.

The media dances around the non politically correct aspects of this:

1. The girl had emotional problems and had tried to commit suicide BEFORE she even game to this country.
2. She actively pursued, and had sex with these young men. It was consensual and there was no forced aspect of it. Yeah, she was young. But turn on the TV folks, younger girls are having sex all over the place.
3. She was picked on, and bullied. There is no doubt about that. But in the context of high school life these days, she was not bullied more or less than any other kid who put themselves in the same position.

I have to ask myself how some of you are putting together your “impressions” about this case. If you write me and say you are a South Hadley Tiger or Parent, then i guess I will bow to you closeness and insider status. But if you are outside of that realm, you are falling victim to the politically correct media, and the media and legal whores in the area who are using this tragic situation for their own benefit.

Why does the rest of the Free Republic world not believe someone who is “boots on the ground,” but would take all of their information from the media who has been sensationalizing THIS case beyond what is true.

Now, I am also familiar with the case of the young man in Springfield who also committed suicide after being hounded by his peers. In that case, many a Freeper were making statements of his family, his parents, and his situation based on his color. My daughter played basketball with his sister and I know the family. I spent hours trying to dispell bullshit about that too.

The media sucks even worse at the local level than it does at the national level.

Don’t believe the crap that spews out of Barbara Walter’s mouth just because some pimply faced producer wrote the words.

I can assure you, that you do not know the entire story—because the kids’ lawyers would not let them talk to the press. Wait until you hear it all before you pass judgement.

And yes, I have two wonderful daughters who got through secondary school in a town local to, and worse in terms of the “mean girls” stuff, than South Hadley. And I have heard stories worse than this one in terms of cliques and groups that “gang up” on the “sluts.” It is not 1980 any more. It is a jungle.

If you haven’t experienced the high school world in the past ten years, I would tell you that you have no idea of what you are talking or writing about in terms of the social pressures and the new social norms.

It is truly hell on earth.

I am truly sorry for this girls family. I am also sorry that these kids were stupid, arrogant, and foolish. I used examples like these kids to teach my girls that there is a lot more to high school sex than worrying about getting pregnant.

If you honestly believe that, you have little experience with the legal system in this country.

Most of these will be talked down to misdemeanors, and the records will be eligible to be expunged in about five years—or just about the time they are going into the workplace.

Now my opinions are pretty strong on this case, but in general, the legal system has not been a “carry it with you forever” world for a long, long time.

I am curious about how old you are, and whether or not you have daughters in a decent sized high school. You indignation tells me that you are either way passed that, or you haven’t had to endure high school as a parent yet.

Present the facts to them:

Cute foreign girl comes into school.
The boys are attracted to her, and she is “available”
She sleeps with the top girl’s boyfriend.
Then, when he dumps her, she sleeps with #2’s boyfriend.
When the clique finds out about it, he dumps her too.

Ask any teenage girl who is tied into her schools social network (the real one, not the movie) how that would turn out.

I am not for a second suggesting that the girl “deserved” to die. I am suggesting that there is plenty of cause and effect. The wild card was that Phoebe was mentally ill. The stuff that slides off most of our backs hit home with her. And she could not take it.

I am not suggesting that kids are OK to bully. But, they were behaving in a way that has been accepted in that environment for years. They had no idea that the girl was not stable. Even the school did not know that. Are we holding teenagers responsible for diagnosing mental disorders now?

To suggest that intimidation and bullying has not been going on for eons is just living in pretend world.

I hope you understand that I am not sticking up for the kids that taunted this poor girl. I am only saying that there was a lot of behavior that was inappropriate on both sides. If anyone should be flogged, it should be the parents of all of these kids.
