SANFORD, Fla. -- A night of Bible study came to a terrifying end for members of a Sanford church on Wednesday when deputies said two masked men stormed into the building and robbed everyone inside at gunpoint.
****
The pastor told WFTV that the robbers stole almost $500, including money one man needed for his chemotherapy.

If this happened in my church, my biggest worry would be the crossfire.
That would go down badly in our church. We have several deacons that carry concealed as well as a half dozen off duty cops that carry...for just such an emergency.
In MI it is up to the discretion of the church leadership, but I don't think that is the case in most states.
Wondering the same thing myself..
And people tell me I don’t need to take my gun to church.
[But read Luk 22:36 ]
I have. And I also have read the two verses that came after it—the disciples missed Jesus’ point, which is why he ends the conversation.
Carrying in a place of worship is verboten in Texas and is a Class A misdemeanor. Violators may lose their CHL. My guess is that prosecutions under this statute may depend on the circumstances.
Of course LEOs are exempted.
I pray for a straight shot into one of the brick walls in our building if anything like this happened to our church.
Indeed. There was at least TWO sidearms at the Last Supper. Ponder that, Christians.
Sanford police are still working to find clues about who robbed the Iglesia Apostolica church on Sanford Avenue around 9pm. ... Because the men had masks on, the victims weren't able to give a description.
Just a wild guess but I'd say the perps knew the church, the victims, and knew their *documented* status. And they were banking on none calling the cops fearing ICE would pay a visit, and retribution from the robbers if they ID'd any of them.
I'm really glad that, "Family Values Don't Stop At The Rio Grande". Otherwise we might see some kind of Crime Wave by these poor 'immigrant kids'.
Then you should see the point he is making: whereas before he’d sent them out with nothing, so that God could prove that they were working for Him by providing everything for them, not He was sending them out with the general command to take care of themselves, hence the association with taking their scrip (a leather food-pouch or wallet).
Given the blasting condemnation of those who fail to take care of their family, how can one argue that home defense is *not* a Christian act?
That’s not the sole point he is making in that instance—before, they would be welcomed by others and would not *need* what would then be considered the basic traveler’s gear of that day.
Now, they will not be as welcome so they must provide themselves with those provisions.
There are texts which can be used to support self defense in the Bible; to try to force this text to become one of them is isigesis.
>There are texts which can be used to support self defense in the Bible;
Agreed.
>to try to force this text to become one of them is isigesis.
Disagreed; imagine a little alteration of the Tale of the Good Samaritan, if you will: wherein instead of passing by someone left for dead they come across the jew as he is being robbed & beaten... and someone [a “man of valor” as some would put it] stepped into the fray to defend the man: would he be acting as a neighbor, or committing lawlessness?
The point of the Good Samaritan has nothing to do with self-defense; I am interested in discussing what the texts actually argue, in their context, and neither of those texts was included to provide biblical support for self-defense.
>I am interested in discussing what the texts actually argue, and neither of those texts was included to provide biblical support for self-defense.
So then, would you argue that one has no moral obligation to stop an evil before it happens? {Which was my point.}
Point to where in either of those texts, the argument is whether one has a moral obligation to stop an evil before it happens.
