When William F. Buckley Met Saul Alinsky

When William F. Buckley met Saul Alinsky, one of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s biggest influences. Unfortunately, only five minutes of this December 1967 edition of Buckley’s seminal Firing Line program is online the above clip, but you can read a transcript of the entire interview at the Hoover Institute, or buy a DVD of the program for ten bucks from Amazon. At one point, Buckley describes Alinsky’s philosophy:

Look, this is a program of things we want, if you don’t give it to us, we’re going to make it impossible for Chicago to continue commercial or civic life at all.

Alinsky eventually argues:

I’ll put it another way. I said that evolution is a chronological term used by non-participating historians to denote a time sequence of a whole series of revolutions which synthesize into a major change — then they call it evolution.

Change? Say, somebody should use that word as a campaign slogan!

And note this exchange:

BUCKLEY: But for instance, we got Medicare in this country, and we got it as a result of discussion. Now, mightn’t Alinsky students have felt that you would need to shoot a few doctors, or let people die for lack of medical attention, before you’d have the kind of conflict that’s necessary to midwife for Medicare?

I love the days when people were interviewed and they smoked on screen.

I remember Buckley talking about a debate he had on a college campus with one of the Black Power leaders. It might have been Stokely Carmichael but I am not sure.

Buckley said that every time the guy made a comment, the students would go wild cheering. This totally confused WFB because he had no idea what the guy was saying. This continued the entire debate.

Buckley said they later went over the tapes and it turned out the Black Power leader was just saying jibberish, I think Buckley described it as “double talk”. It didn’t matter, the students were going to cheer him no matter what he said.

He just oozes dishonesty. Completely mendacious. He wants to win the debate, insult his critics, and exert personal power. To me, he seems consumed with evil intent.

That's the modus operandi of the radical Left: "By any means necessary."

When I was a kid, I would stay up late and night and watch Buckley. I watched every time he was on. I studied him and learned from him. He was one of the most brilliant Conservatives that ever lived. He would cut someone like gore vidal into shreds, reassemble the meaty bits and slice and dice him again.

When he rocked back in his chair with that side-shift motion he would use, lean his head back and to one side... dart his tongue side to side for a second and then turn back into his prey... someone was fixing to get the crap beat out of them. He taught me what being a Conservative truly was.

You also have to respect a man that in the 60’s, when curious and wanting to try out marijuana... sailed his sloop into International Waters before lighting up his blunt. That is a Conservative.

He could have more easily followed me and my buddies out behind the red barn at school...

Wow. THAT is amazing. He managed to get right to the heart of Alinsky in this one line of repartee...

ALINSKY: Well, what I meant by that on the Poverty Program was it was a Federal welfare program -- which, in fact, it is. Instead of being billed as a War on Poverty, and if it didn't come out with all these sanctimonious, hypocritical, moralistic trappings and -- it wasn't "Harper's' but the reaction when I call it political pornography is -- let's put it this way: I don't object to a minister or any religious representative getting up on the altar and giving a sermon against adultery, because I think that's part of his racket, and I think everybody sitting thel'e asswnes that. But when all the time you know that he has been playing with the organist...

BUCKLEY: Why do you say racket -- is this part of your racket to fight poverty? Are you using racket in an invidious way?

dart his tongue side to side for a second

Then he would raise his forehead skin up and then roll his complete scalp on his head forward, then release it back. I used to see that in such complete amazement that I would almost forget the immediate topic.

Where are the Republicans?

They checked their spines at the door be because that spinless Boehner told them to. ALL the remaining RE-PUKE-LICANS need to be replaced in 2012 and 2014 along with all the DEMOCRATS. Most all the RE-PUKE-LICANS in the Senate and all the DEMOCRATS in the Senate need to go. Maybe then just maybe we will have a chance to save the Republic unless Obamalamadingdong declares martial law, suspends habeas corpus, suspends the rest of the Constitution and starts to eliminate the 25 to 30 million Ayers, Stern, Trumpka, Sunstien, Power, Jones and all the other Communists/Marxists that dominate our cherished White House so desperately want to see.

” Where are the conservative, smokin’ tough men like Buckley today “ ?

They are out there but typically they are scorned and vilified by the establishment right and left . We see it every day . We are convinced by the same press and people we clam to despise and mistrust . Yes we love a nostalgic look at the greats from the past at the same time we bar the door from the new ones .

Remember, you're talking about a guy who dedicated his book to Lucifer.

Yeah, THAT Lucifer.
