Iran should have ceased to exist November 5, 1979, but we had no president then either.

“The radar system of these fighters are highly complicated because it consists of a set of separated parts which should be linked to each other when they are mounted on the fighter jet, and this is a very complex scientific and technological process,”
They’re using a string and two soup cans tied together?

This news story is hard to believe. I read somewhere that in 1979, when the Shah was overthrown, the U.S. Defense Contractors who were help maintaining the Fleet essentially disabled the planes.
The ravages of time and inability to get parts probably hamstrung the Iranians to put together only a small number of jets.

"Iran is working on a radar system that can cover areas within a range of 3,000 km," Line of sight to an air breathing target from the surface is about 220 NM. Unless he is describing an over-the-horizon capability, this is pure BS and empty braggadocio. Whom, exactly, does he think he's fooling? Certainly not himself.

Iran should have ceased to exist November 5, 1979, but we had no president then either. Hey he was busy getting the hostages out of Iran via a LARGE stick and meaningful rhetoric!..................
Oh....wait a minute.... that was Reagan in 1981 wasn't it.
I sure hope to he!! we have just as great an American as a successor after Obama as we had after Carter.
We desperately need one.

I was working as a technician for a defense contractor when the Shah was overthrown. One of the things being manufactured was a key component for the actuators on the variable geometry wing of the Tomcat. The pieces that were part of the purchase order from the Iranians got damaged (deliberately) by the shop workers.
Did the Soviets wind up doing some reverse engineering of the Tomcat? The Mullahs did provide samples of the Phoenix and the radar.

I would not believe Iranian claims. They are lucky to keep some of their F-14s in the air.

Iranian F-14 aka lawn dart or artificial reef eventually.

Maybe it’s just the angle the photo was taken at, but are the wings on an F-14 supposed to look like that in flight?
“Ahmed! Quit cranking or you’ll cut the tail off this plane too!”
