Joking aside, given Osama´s health (kidney) problems, it is likely that the (very) close location of two major hospitals is a factor in the location of the hideout.
Of course, it´s not likely that he was undergoing treatment so close to major military installations without the knowledge of the Pakistani military and intelligence services.
He was probably in the dialysis clinic twice a week.

Actually, the Military college looks to be about 800 meters away, not 100 as some have reported.
Depends on where the grounds of the academy ends. I reckon that the big field in front of the Google Maps marker belongs to the academy, for instance.
In any case, we are talking a distance of less than a klick from the front gate under all circumstances. That´s real close.
Google Earth puts the two at 1125 yards apart as the crow flies.

Osama probably compared the long form Obama released to the copy that had been given to him by one of his Saudi uncles and realized that one of them was a forgery. A heated discussion on the red phone to his brother from another mother in the Whitehouse and the next thing you know he is swimming with the fishes.
Nobody can say with a straight face that lots of people in the Pak military didn't know Osama was there. I doubt you can live in the neighborhood of Pakistan's military elites, right next to where they send their kids to prep school, and not be under minute scrutiny by every police and intelligence agency in Pakistan. People had to have been told by VERY senior officials: "what's inside that compound is none of your business, do not ask questions, do not talk about it, and report to us here IMMEDIATELY if you see strangers snooping around asking questions about it".
You're telling me that a secretive compound with 18' walls, barbed wire, and security cameras, located in a neighborhood of retired military officers near the capitol, located less than a mile from a military academy and a couple of prep schools used by the elites, would not have occasioned just a little bit of checking out? Even in the US, much less an authoritarian society like Pakistan?
And you are telling me that we DON’T have secretive compounds with 18” thick walls, barbed wire, and security cameras near OUR capitol?

I´d say the government has a pretty good idea of who lives in any heavily fortified compound close to (as in *really* close to) major military installations.
