MeneMeneTekelUpharsin has it right, it was pure genius to dump him at sea, because there is no possibility for OBL's followers to build a shrine around his grave. It's similar to what the Russians did after getting Hitler's body, they wanted to make damn sure that the Nazis couldn't create a shrine around it, and so they disposed of the body in a way that wouldn't allow for that. It was a brilliant part of the plan, which makes me think that the idea came from the military rather than the White House.
Not only that, but there is a possibility that the burial at sea is just a ruse and they still have the body. If we still have the body, then there would be an uproar to turn it over, to comply with the 24-hour burial deadline. "Oops, it was buried at sea, so we can't give it back" .... and (conveniently) you'll never be able to find it.

Instead of Obama meeting his 72 virgins, he's meeting 72 sturgeons?
I know...I know...sturgeon is a fresh water fish, but I don't know of a salt water fish that rhymes with virgin.

What if, by some strange fluke, the "buried"-at-sea body of OBL washes up on some beach where a Middle Eastern family is having a bar-be-que shore party?
It's not beyond the range of possibility....depending on where he was "buried".

Possible, but I would think they attached it something very heavy

treated the body under full Islamic custom That can mean different things. Maybe the body was treated in accordance with Gen. Pershing's Islamic custom. Rumors will start and Osama fans can never know for sure.

They said it was in a weighted bag, which sounds about right.
I think the best part was that he was dumped off the back of one of our aircraft carriers. Talk about your symbolism!
