Doesnt DNA testing take weeks?
No. Once you have the two samples of the DNA, you'd PCR up more (a couple of hours) of each and then label the loci of interest in both samples with fluorescently-tagged primers (a couple of hours with 10 minute prepping time) and then do the genotyping (about hour plus another 15 minute prepping time) on the sequencer, and then compare the results (a few minutes using GeneMapper). I know because this is my job.

623. * If a person dies on a ship and if there is no fear of the decay of the dead body and if there is no problem in retaining it for sometime on the ship, it should be kept on it and buried in the ground after reaching the land.
647. * If it is proposed to transfer the dead body to some other town or its burial is delayed owing to some reason, the wahshat prayers should be deferred till the first night of its burial.
Have yet to have found any stipulation for burial within 24hrs. Will keep looking.

I have read many documents in my profession with regards to DNA evidence.
Here is what does not pass the smell test:

According to the authorities, the DNA test was validated with 99% confidence. This is a lie. DNA can never be validated to that level for identification purposes unless a blood workup is done within a specified time frame to the test. Second, one can not use a sibling's DNA sample to provide 99% identification of any other family member.
What sibling tests can do is verify whether a person is a half sibling or a full sibling. That is as far as the test goes. The media continues to lie about the death of Bin Laden. All intelligence from the Middle East has stated Bin Laden died years ago.
The outcome is the same: death of Bin Laden. The politics behind the death is different. Which is more beneficial to the war on terror? Death from natural causes, or death from the hand of the Allied Forces?

Thanks for that info. Interestingly the "expert" (testified in the OJ trial) in the news video says 12-24 hours.
There was some confusion that the testing was done stateside which makes for an improbable timeline.

He may mean that once you submit something for testing it could take that long to have results returned. We get samples in the morning, set up the reactions and have the PCRs run by the afternoon, purified, and on the sequencers before 5PM. Each 96 well plate takes 1 or 2 hours to run. The next morning I examine the results, trim noise, and get the files ready for more careful scrutiny and editing and the final results are handed out that afternoon. So it's a 24 hour turnaround, though the actual time needed for any sample is only about 5 hours.
