Liberals at work.

Somehow they’ve managed to turn the War on Terror on its head, such that the United States is the Bad Guy.

Shocking - but quite credible.

Your childish desire to defend terrorists and lie about it is what’s sickening. You defend terrorists against our military, and then accuse me of having been the one to do that. If you really think my family is doing such a lousy job protecting your ungrateful hide, why don’t you try doing the job yourself, instead of complaining about it from behind your keyboard?

Even Rahm Emanuel thinks Eric "My People!" Holder is a traitor?

One of my friends worked down there and some of the eye-rolling things that happened in Gitmo is amazing. He was genuinely afraid when Holder was threatening the prosecutions.

I noticed in your link how Erriachi was given up by Pakistani police for a $5000 bounty. I think Pakistan has a lot to be answering for.

My take is that they shelter the real high-ranking terrorists while turning over chumps in their place.

This stuff could have happened under President Bush’s tenure as well.

Don’t forget that the law firm of King and Spalding is helping defend these terrorists as well.

I love how people are buying this detainee’s story with little question. He just happened to be in Pakistan in September 2001, trying to “sell silver.” Or as they all say, I was just selling diapers. Or honey. Or teaching the Koran. Did you just leave the matinee of “The Conspirator?” Where you learned that the military is bad and detainees are good?

One should realize that the U.S. has gone over these stories many times. There is a reason they didn’t buy his story and held onto this guy, until he’d been out of the loop long enough + they got Morocco to take him back.

One should not forget that lying to the infidel to achieve one’s ends and manipulating the Western media and gullible leftists are hallmarks of al-Qaeda’s asymmetric warfare strategy.

Now, I say try them before a military tribunal and be done with it. But with the conflict created by populating the Justice Dept with the same Covington and Burling “lawyers” that represented these detainees, that
conflict makes prosecution impossible. Unless and until the administration changes. So Obama and Holder are the reason for the last 2+ years of detention without trial.

Where have I defended a terrorist? Nowhere.

YOU are the one who seems to be saying that the military is wrong, and that there weren’t innocents taken to Gitmo.

YOU are the one who seems to imply that the military has RELEASED hundreds of guilty terrorists.

I am the one saying the military is doing a good job. Don’t try to twist it around to satisfy your desire to defend the weasels who collected US taxpayer $$$ to turn in their innocent rivals. Don’t suggest we should change our procedures in the field to put our troops in more danger.

Remember, anyone can go upthread and read what I wrote and what you wrote...and they will see that the misstatements are yours, not mine.

You are such a lousy liar. Why don’t you post a photoshopped copy of the posts you claim I made? Or at least find a way to get your own posts removed before you deny making them.

The post-Vietnam lefty talking points may tell you to try to pretend that you support the troops, but your slip is showing. As much as you fantasize about having a latte with the Gitmo occupants, these terrorists are all in by the time they are teenagers and would would slit your throat just as quickly as they would anyone else’s.

When you hide your own flag so as not to offend the sensibilities of your enemy, it indicates you have already lost the war.

My take is that they shelter the real high-ranking terrorists while turning over chumps in their place.

Yes, although this occurred in Afghanistan and Iraq, too, and it was often not at high-ranking levels. It was dudes turning in their local rivals, getting the double-win of eliminating a rival and collecting $5000 of US taxpayer cash.

Also, taxi drivers who had no clue who their fare was were taken when a baddie was captured. The Coalition forces prudently captured and interrogated the drivers to be sure they didn't actually know who the fare was, rather than entirely field-determine it (as some seem to think we should be doing). Thus, the net was cast wide, knowing many innocents would be caught up. (BTW, I've never been to Gitmo, nor have I taken anyone into custody, but I've spoken with interrogators of these detainees, and my biggest high-school rival was an interrogator for some of the biggies and their drivers...and what I've heard is consistent.)

And how about the anti-Communist Uighurs, who escaped from China into Afghanistan/Pakistan and were picked up by bounty hunters and turned over to us. Some were found to be enemy combatants, but many were cleared. The Uighur detainees cleared of terrorism charges can't be sent back to China or they'll be killed.

There's lots of info out on these anti-Chinese Muslims out there, and it's rather bothersome to me that it's rarely mentioned on FR. It's bothersome that people escaping from a restrictive regime are confined by us for years after being cleared of wrongdoing. We can debate whether training to fight China is an evil act or whether any Muslim weapon training is bad or whatever, but we have cleared these people. For FReepers to ignore the issue seems to fall right into the stereotype of "ignorant conservatives."

In any case, summing up, the flag shouldn't be kept hidden, and we shouldn't mistreat those who might not be guilty.

LOL

I have no desire to interact at all with the terrorists. I am writing of the non-terrorists.

As I was reading the link, I was thinking this guy was just spinning a yarn myself. BUT it isn’t outside the realm of plausibility that corrupt Pakistani police saw an easy way to make $5000 off some dimwit. $5k for a Pakistani policeman is a LOT of money.

According to other articles he was re-arrested in Morocco for “belonging to an unauthorized group”.

I think if people are AQ they should be tried here by military tribunal, not released.

I’m a reservist and a guy I served with in a previous unit did a stint in Gitmo as an interregator.

We didn’t talk much about the details of his job, but considering what people in that part of the world make, $5000 to say your biggest rival is AQ would be mighty tempting.

I also thought the Uighurs were sent to Bermuda.

That's for sure.

I guess that some like to think that our military is too stupid to realize that would yield many false arrests in addition to the actual terrorists. But they realize that, and it's not all "wimpy liberalism" or "military stupidity" that has led to the release of the majority of Gitmo detainees.

I also thought the Uighurs were sent to Bermuda.

I think that four to Bermuda, five went to Albania, some to Switzerland, last I heard...I think there are only four or five "non-threat" ones left at Gitmo, but I don't know for sure.

And...thank you for your service.

We are still holding 100s ...not sure exactly..of Mariel boatlift Cubans whose criminal status is either profound....or undetermined

for 30 years now

they were going to send back the final 1500 to Cuba but since that meant likely exectuion they have just kept them here

many are just unstable folks no one claimed ever

there are always history’s black holes..but I think the Ughurs were released to a third party nation
