An Egyptian court has convicted a top official in the former government of ex-President Hosni Mubarak of corruption.
Former Interior Minister Habib al Adli was jailed for 12 years for money laundering and profiteering, a judicial source said.
The court also fined al Adli £1.5m and ordered that his assets be seized.
Many Egyptians have been closely watching the fate of one of the most hated members of the administration because of the brutality of his police force during the uprising that deposed the former President in February.
Al Adli is also facing separate charges of killing pro-democracy protesters during the revolt and squandering public funds.
He is accused of ordering the use of live ammunition against unarmed protesters during the 18-day demonstrations that toppled the regime.
If convicted, he faces the death penalty.

A muslim official found as corrupt.....!
My stars!
Gives me the vapors, it does.....
But a muslim official jailed for corruption - now that is news.
Imagine Hell freezing over if a member of the congress was jailed for corruption.
The irony is the people doing the convicting are even more corrupt. There’s no ‘good first step’ here. It’s just the rearrangement of power.. and don’t forget about the MB.
Hey wait.. this guy just sent me an e-mail asking if I would like to make some money by helping him..
“I need your help/assistance to transfer the funds to a more secure account in your name as there are presently held in the name of an Alias company name under the authority of an attorney in London who does not know the genuine benefactors and would facilitate the funds transfer as he has a Pedigree for being genuine and honest on his dealings.”
I wonder if it’s legit?? <sarc
