BATH, Maine (AP) Engaged in a frenzied firefight and outnumbered by the Taliban, Navy Lt. Michael Murphy made a desperate decision as he and three fellow SEALs fought for their lives on a rocky mountainside in Afghanistans Kunar Province in 2005.
In a last-ditch effort to save his team, Murphy pulled out his satellite phone, walked into a clearing to get reception and called for reinforcements as a fusillade of bullets ricocheted around him. One of the bullets hit him, but he finished the call and even signed off, Thank you.
Then he continued the battle...............
A warship bearing the name of the Medal of Honor recipient will be christened Saturday on what would have been Murphys 35th birthday at Bath Iron Works, where the destroyer is being built.

Awesome! God bless our military.
A great tribute to a great man.
He died a hero! I’m so glad he is being honored.
A very well-deserved move, although the Navy is still stained by its decision to name one of the new LPDs after that POS Murtha.
I hope the Murtha isn’t built in Maine!
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends - John 15:13.
RIP to a true hero and godspeed to the ship named after him.
“In his own book, Lone Survivor, Luttrell wrote that Murphy was shot in the stomach early in the firefight, but ignored the wound and continued to lead the team, which killed dozens of Taliban attackers.”
If you have not read “LONE SURVIVOR” by Navy Seal Luttrell , I would highly suggest it. It is a great read for all to understand what these men do to protect our country. It also gives insight into the Pashtun people their and protection code.
Absolutely agree it’s a highly suggested read. It also gives insight to the *beyond* strenuous training our SEAL’s go thru.
Fantastic book.
Thank you Murphy ( Danny and Axe ) for your service and sacrifice.
