CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Amazon.com may pull the plug on coming to Tennessee, which could cost the state 1,400 jobs.
The company is considering dropping its plans to build two distribution centers near Chattanooga. It hinges on whether state lawmakers pass a bill that would require Amazon.com to collect sales tax in the state.
Amazon.com and former Gov. Phil Bredesen had agreed on a deal where taxes wouldn't be required, but now that could change.

I wonder who is floating the idea that Bredesen’s deal would not be honored. We have high unemployment, and a heavily GOP controlled Senate and House and a GOP governor. I think that the rumor is being made up by someone from a competing state.

Trial balloon being sent up by career politician tax lovers. RINOs and Dems po’d over Amazon and Electrolux tax deals. The would rather see high unemployment rates and people dependent upon the government (otherwise known as their power base).

Amazon has a great business plan: pray that your customer base are scofflaws.

The GOP controlled state government in South Carolina would not give into Amazon demands for an in state sales tax haven. Amazon supposedly went packing, but sounds like they are fishing for the best deal from any state. Then again there was a bit of public outcry over another corporate welfare state government give away which existing businesses would not get a slice of the pie.

Not collecting sales tax isn’t corporate welfare.

I was under the understanding that TN tax code required personal reporting of purchases made via the internet.
