Kathleen Sebelius: Seniors may ‘die sooner’ under Ryan plan

By: J. Lester Feder May 5, 2011 04:52 PM EDT

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that the Ryan Medicare proposal will lead to early deaths among seniors.

During testimony before the House Education and the Workforce Committee, she said seniors “will run out of money very quickly.”

She continued, “If you run out of the government voucher and then you run out of your own money, you’re left to scrape together charity care, go without care, die sooner. There really aren’t a lot of options.”

The committee’s Democrats began the hearing by firing a shot at the Ryan plan, releasing a report by the Center for Economic and Policy Research that found seniors will need to save an additional $182,000 in order to cover increased health costs if it were to become law.

During the question-and-answer period, New Jersey Democrat Rob Andrews said that, on average, seniors have less than $100,000 in their 401(k)s.

“If you’re a senior on Medicare and ... you emptied out your 401(k), it would only pay for less than half” of the new out of pocket costs, he said.

In the first half of the hearing, Committee Republicans did not rise to support the Medicare privatization plan passed last month, instead focusing attacks on the Affordable Care Act.

But later in the hearing, Indiana Rep. Larry Bucshon shot back at the secretary by accusing her of lying about the plan’s details.

“Are you aware [the Ryan plan is] designed after the same type of plan that members of Congress currently have, and would you call that putting members of Congress onto the open market?” he said. “Clearly it is deceptive to say to the American people.....

Idiots. Under ObamaCare and its “death panels”, there won’t be any seniors.

Well, we know how the Dems are going to debate entitlement reform: anything that tries to limit costs kills seniors.

Dying might be a good way out if living under socialism is the other option.

The only fair plan is this: support and vote Dem and you live - support and vote Rep and you die. It’s for the children.

a report...found seniors will need to save an additional $182,000 in order to cover increased health costs

So, how much is currently spent on EACH senior? More than $182,000? Seems hard to believe.

Sebelius stood by her comments, adding that, unlike the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, the federal government would not be the “generous partner” in insuring seniors that it is for federal employees.

Sebelius admits that government employees receive more generous medical benefits than the taxpayers that fund them but she doesn't want those taxpayers to have anything similar and, being a liberal Democrat, reverts to form and lies about the Ryan Medicare proposal while attempting to characterize it in a way that will scare senior citizens into believing that, under the Ryan proposal, they'll essentially 'lose' Medicare and 'be left to die'. Sebelius is a disgusting liar but she is an Obama appointee and this kind of shenanigans is their stock-in-trade. No wonder there is such a stark political divide in this country. Democrats lie incessantly and, sadly, many Americans still buy their mendacity, elect more Democrats - and the cycle continues. RINOs are almost as bad - but that's another thread.

Whose fault is that?

My 401k is less than half that, but that's my problem, not some congresscritter's.

I'm not retiring until at least 70. I made that decision 10 years ago, when we decided to add one more child to the family (he's in 3rd grade now).

He's been worth every penny, but I reserve the right to revise and extend my remarks when he's a teenager.

Hey Sebelius: I would RATHER die sooner then spend my grandchildrens money before they are EVEN BORN

dumbass witch....

We are paying now for stupid programs people voted themselves 40 YEARS ago and I am sick of it. I give them a break (a little) becasue despite all the warnings no one actually saw this monstrosity of government come into fruition until now.

The people who were against these idiotic programs 40 years ago WERE RIGHT, and now it is PROVEN.

I DO NOT want my children thinking the same about me and our generation.

It’s Sebilius so it’s bogus. Simple. We learned that the hard way in Kansas.

My father lived through the Depression, was a die-hard (NYC) Democrat and staunch union man.
But even he could see back in the 60s that Medicare/Medicaid were wrong and said so.
Years later, when he admitted he voted for Ross Perot, all six of his kids looked at him like he had three heads.

ok so how much are we spending with current programs PER PERSON

I am sick of this $hit.

Welfare is 27% efficient. That means it costs $100,000 to hand out $23,000 ($27K + $73K overhead)

That is UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE~!!!

Give $30K to the local churches, and they will be able to help them better and cheaper and we will save $70K

I am betting Social Security and Medicaid are similarly stupid

This “woman”, and I use the term loosely, gets under my skin almost as much as Obama, Pelosi and Reed. She is a true, commie-rat believer.

Part of the problem is how the family has been destroyed in this country. 50 or 60 years ago. Parents lived with their kids when they reached a certain age. The mother, who stayed at home, helped take care of the parents if they needed it and, to the extent possible, the parents helped with the kids. That rarely happens these days. Its a shame. If it did, it would go a long way toward solving any “crisis” that came from seniors not having enough money.

Kathleen Sebelius: Seniors may ‘die sooner’ under Ryan plan

I doubt the seniors numbers will be in the millions as it is for the unborn under Sebelius' Planned Parenthood plan.

Sebelius, the pimp-daddy’s second favorite political whore, after Janet Napolitano, is in so far over her head that she is drowning in her own words. Like the rest of the White House, she talks just to hear herself talk. If you taped her mouth up, she would probably sh_t herself to death.
