Bin Laden 'may have lived in Pakistan for over 7 years'

ISLAMABAD: Osama bin Laden may have lived in Pakistan for over seven years before being shot dead by US forces, senior Pakistani security officials said on Saturday, a disclosure that could further anger key ally Washington over the presence of enemy number one in the country.

One of Bin Laden’s widows told Pakistani investigators that the world’s most wanted man stayed in a village for nearly two and a half years before moving to the nearby garrison town of Abbottabad, where he was killed.

The wife, Amal Ahmed Abdulfattah, told investigators earlier that Bin Laden and his family had spent five years in Abbottabad, before one of the world’s most elaborate and expensive manhunts ended there on Monday.

“Amal (bin Laden’s wife) told investigators that they lived in a village in Haripur district for nearly two and a half years before moving to Abbottabad at the end of 2005,” one of the security officials told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

Abdulfattah, along with two other wives and several children, were among 15-16 people detained by Pakistani authorities at the compound after the raid.

Pakistan, heavily dependent on billions of dollars of US aid, is under heavy pressure to explain how Bin Laden could have spent so many years undetected a few hours drive from its intelligence headquarters in the capital.

Suspicions have deepened that Pakistan’s pervasive Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) spy agency, which has a long history of contacts with militant groups, may have had ties with Bin Laden – or at least some of its agents did.

“Al Qaeda has acknowledged that Bin Laden is dead,”

How would they know? Obama snatches Osama, interrogates him, then dumps an already dead man into the ocean. Who's to know?

Pak government is a window dressing. Pakistan is indeed ruled by a secret cabal. The cabal do not need to inform their puppets of their activity. That would be over puppets’ pay grade.

As Jack Ryan (in The Hunt For Red October) said:
“We definitely grab the boat, sir.”

Gubmint official says: “They are going to want it back”

They develop a plan to trick the Russians into thinking the sub sank in the deepest part of the ocean. With the Russians off their back, they can proceed to interrogate, I mean examine, the secret sub undisturbed for as long as they want to. Then dumping, I mean sinking, the evidence into the deep ocean like they said they did in the first place.

Now the Russians are a little bit skeptical since they have not seen any photos of the sunken sub. Absent wide spread demands for the photos, skepticism dies. The charade is a success.

I’m curious why OBL’s wife wasn’t brought back with the SEALS. She obviously has quite a bit of knowledge relating to his movements. Why leave for the ISI?

“I just talked to somebody very knowledgeable ... that thinks that he’s in a villa, a nice comfortable villa,” Christiane Amanpour revealed on the October 3, 2008 edition of “Real Time” with Bill Maher. Amanpour cited an anonymous source.

He’s “in Pakistan. Not a cave,” she added.

Cold? Anyone who would hang a painting of the World Trade Center burning in their dining room is a little more than cold! She’s a fiend.

Oh, and the artist is a citizen of Iran.

You also have to wonder why we started broadcasting to the world that we had captured computers and DVD and reams of intelligence information.

The mere fact that Al Queda knew that we got a bunch of stuff would make them melt away. Makes you wonder if we didn’t actually get anything, or, if we got bin Laden alive and are running a scam on him.

Occam’s razor says Obama and Leon Panetta are far too stupid to pull off something like this, and in actuallity they are blundering about making mistake after mistake in how they handle the intelligence gained in the raid.

You ask why they did not bring OBL’s wife back to the U. S. with the Navy Seals? For the same reason that Obama gave the order to kill OBL on site . Obama did not want to deal with any of them on American soil, and the only other place to imprison them would have been Gitmo. He wasn’t about to let that happen and add more credibility to GWB’s policies about enemy combatants.

They can also take her to Afghanistan for further investigation. I think loss of helicopter was major reason.

I always thought Osama is hiding in Pakistan Presidential Palace along with Musharraf, damn he was in Haripur and then Abbottabad. I have to admit I was wrong.
Now they can find No2. in Murree, Pakistan.

Oh he was there all right, but he didn’t stand out among the other customers ;-)

The non-sinister explanation is this: Arrive in five choppers, depart in four. The math for taking bonus humint off of the compound got a lot more complicated with fewer "seats" out of Pakistan.

Or maybe we got him weeks ago and have only publicized this now that all the leads in the captured intelligence have already been exploited to their full potential. It seems stupendously stupid to blow this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to seriously damage al Qaeda by making maximum use of this intelligence all in favor of scoring a few quick PR points. But given the trade-off, it’s not that surprising these clowns opted for the latter over the former.

According to his wife...the Pakistan government helped her relocate to safe houses and eventually the compound. Dust needs to settle IMO.

My guess in all of this is that Saudi Arabia, where the Bin Laden family is from, probably has been paying for Osama’s protection for a long time.
How else to explain all of this.
Here we were looking for this guy in every place except right under the noses of everyone right out in plain sight.

“It’s bullshit,” said a senior Pakistani security official, when quizzed on a U.S. intelligence official’s assertion that bin Laden had been “active in operational planning and in driving tactical decisions” of the Islamist militant group from his secret home in the town of Abbottabad.

Sadly, given all the lies shamelessly trotted out by this administration during the health care debate, it’s tough for me to decide who’s telling the truth here: the most mendacious bunch to occupy the WH in modern history or one of the most corrupt regimes in the Middle East? Flip a coin.
