Barack Obama: Clean energy will deliver the ‘jobs of the future’

By: MJ Lee May 7, 2011 09:22 AM EDT

For the third weekend in a row, President Barack Obama used his weekly address to the nation on Saturday to promote his energy agenda, calling clean energy jobs the “jobs of the future.”

Speaking from the Allison Transmission plant in Indianapolis, where he visited on Friday, Obama lauded the workers at the hybrid technology manufacturing company for doing “big and impressive things.”

“The clean energy jobs at this plant are the jobs of the future – jobs that pay well right here in America,” the president said. “And in the years ahead, it’s clean energy companies like this one that will keep our economy growing, create new jobs, and make sure America remains the most prosperous nation in the world.”

On Friday, Obama renewed his call for an end to tax subsidies for oil companies, saying profitable firms in the industry don’t need the extra $4 billion of tax benefits every year. “If you’re already paying them at the pump, we don’t need to pay them through the tax code,” the president said, echoing the topic of last week’s address. “Especially at a time when we’re scouring every part of the budget to try to figure out how we bring down our deficit and our debt.”

He only wasted one trillion dollars on this and now he wants another trillion or two so we can be energy independent.

This man is sick and getting sicker.

Kudos to Bob Grant.

“The clean energy jobs at this plant are the jobs of the future – jobs that pay well right here in America,”

The last time I heard from him, he was encouraging Brazil to drill, emphasizing that we would be their "best customer".

Note to self: Pick up some Tums.

This guy is totally beatable in 2012.

A couple of things working against that theory:

1. Republicans of recent have a penchant for picking read turds for candidates that couldn't win their way out of a wet paper sack (because they are limp-wristed RINOs who won't stand and stay put on principals- and far too many of the current "favorites" fall into that category).

2. Never underestimate the power of a stupid/ignorant/lazy electorate. Remember, 52%+ of voters (living and dead) voted for the Bummer we have in office today no matter how bad things are in the economy. They will fall for the same tired rhetoric and lies that they keep falling for (as well as the threats of loss of their juicy entitlements).

You have to have lots of “jobs” in order for there to be much of a demand for energy in the first place.

The old saying goes, “When you are getting run out of town, try to get out front and make it look like a parade.” Obama has promoted his “clean energy jobs of the future” lie continuously hoping that we will begin to believe it. What the dummy is trying to hide is the fact that we need jobs now. Something that he has failed to stimulate even after tripling our deficit.

Drilling, coal mining, gas and oil pipelines, new and additional refining capacity, enhanced crude oil recovery from existing wells, restoration of deep water exploration, and other related domestic fossil fuel endeavors financed by private capital will provide jobs now—not in the future.

His is not an energy concern. His is an ideological pursuit. He achieved his goal of $4/gallon gasoline much sooner than even he expected. It will lead to his political demise.

Obama’s vision for the U. S. is called socialism which is just one step away from communism.

We can see clearly. He thinks we can’t. We showed him in November, 2010 and we will show him again in November, 2012.

A successful economy based on green jobs is clearly a myth. See Spain's absolute failure with commanding a green jobs economy.

The kindest interpretation of Obama and his continued promotion of green jobs is based on the inescapable conclusion that he is ever clueless, completely oblivious to reality.

Additionally, a second and more sinister motive for his continued pushing of green jobs appears increasingly more likely.

The next big bubble to burst will be the green bubble.

Disagree.

The green bubble doesn't exist without federal dollars. Since we are out of federal dollars to prop these boondoggles up, the bubble can't grow without market speculation and nobody (with brains) is putting money in it except the moron in the white hut.

“If you’re already paying them at the pump, we don’t need to pay them through the tax code,”

I don't hear this mantra from the same sources against the Ethanol producers - which is subsidized on several levels - direct subsidies, not just tax credits or deductions.

The farmers receive direct subsidies
The ethanol "brewers" receive subsidies
And the distributors get tax breaks

And we still pay the same amount of tax per gallon at the pump - regardless of how much ethanol content the fuel has.

What amazes me - E85 (some nasty stuff) use to be available at the pump for something around 40-60 cents per gallon less than regular unleaded (where I use to buy fuel). The primary reason was tax breaks/subsidies . So what happened to that? Last time I looked, E85 was only 10-15 cents "cheaper" per gallon. And when you figure in the 30% (on average) loss in fuel economy - you are paying a HUGE premium to burn fuel with less energy. To even come CLOSE to making ANY sense to the consumer (regardless of supposed or perceived environmental "greenness" ), the price of E85 would have o be less than 2/3 the cost of regular unleaded to "equal out" the out-of-pocket fuel cost. To make any plausible impact beyond, we are looking at closer to 1/2 the cost. Yet that isn't the case. Even with massive subsidies, that isn't feasible today, or in the future because we are paying for the fuel cost in other ways (our taxes used for subsidies, higher food/grocery/and goods costs, etc.).

Ethanol, wind, solar and electric cars, etc. will never be viable economic or practical alternatives to replace good old fossil fuel technology. You can’t wish it so or base economic policy on it either. At some point you have to recognize this reality or destroy forward progress.

Scour? How about passing a 2006 Pre-Pelosi/Reid budget...and then start cutting from there?
