Americas Pentagon releases 'bin Laden tapes'

The US has released five video clips of Osama bin Laden that it says was taken from the Pakistani compound where the leader of al-Qaeda was reportedly killed last week.

The videos mainly show bin Laden rehearsing taped remarks, but there is also video showing him watching news coverage of himself on TV.

Al Jazeera's Rosiland Jordan, reporting from the Pentagon in Washington DC, said that the video clips were shown to journalists, but the sound was removed from them.

"We did see a video of Osama bin Laden watching video of himself on what appears to be Al Jazeera," she said.

Wayne Madsen, an investigative journalist speaking to Al Jazeera from Washington DC, said that it was still difficult to confirm that all these videos do show bin Laden, as some are not clear.

"There are going to be many more questions raised after the release of these videos, because there have been videos and images in the past that were thought to be of bin Laden, but some of those turned out to be fake."

Compound videos

Earlier on Saturday, Al Jazeera obtained new footage of the compound where Osama bin Laden was killed, that showed the interiors of the house where the al-Qaeda leader is thought to have been hiding for up to six years.

Filmed during daylight hours, there is no doubt that this is the house where bin Laden was shot and killed by US forces, Al Jazeera's Imtiaz Tyab said, reporting from the compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

"These pictures ... give a sense of just how Osama bin Laden - the world's most wanted fugitive - lived relatively undetected right here in Abbottabad," our correspondent said.

It was not immediately clear how long after the raid that the footage was taken.

The information dump by those in D.C. has been horrific.
The enemy has been tipped off!

The D.C. crowd has been playing this release of information
as a Freedom of the Press issue when the truth is our
media and many in D.C. are working with our enemies.
Though this has been known for decades, it is now so

My hope, perhaps a vain one, is that information is being selectively leaked for a more devious purpose. Perhaps to scare the terrorists into moving and being sighted, or perhaps into rushing a big plan with inadequate advance planning so they can be caught. I hope, I hope!!

Hope is internal. I believe it has been pretty well established at this point that the lid was supposed to be put on any further releases of information on UBL's demise.
The infighting within the WH is why any of it was brought out to begin with.
Gates and others on the Intel and military side did not want anything leaked. Others, the goon's gang felt otherwise and over ruled.
Whether the videos or other info leaked out has any real positive effects on al Qaeda world wide, the Taliban as well as other radicalized Islamist groups perhaps will never be known.
Our Signal, Humit, Geo spacial, other, has significantly improved during the past ten years. Many things are in place that allow for the tracking of enemy movements. If anything releasing the tapes etc., may scare them into more clever means of inter communications. It is a two edged sword. That is. It may worked against our ability to track them.
