A question I've been pondering recently; for how long has the US Constitution been dead to Democrats? Can anyone help me understand when, over the last 100 years or so, have they done anything to advance the cause of individual freedom and personal responsibility?

President Barack Obama will ask Congress on Friday for authority to close the Commerce Department and create a new export agency, an overhaul that could save US$3-billion and help inoculate him against Republican election-year charges that he is a big-government liberal. White House budget official Jeffrey Zients told reporters the reorganization would fold together the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and other trade bodies now spread across Washington, giving businesses a single point of contact and ensuring federal spending goes further to boost exports. Obama was set to deliver remarks at 11:20 a.m. on the new, yet-to-be-named department that...

Talk about the ultimate joy ride. A local NBC affiliate in Richmond, Virginia reports that thieves stole a truck carrying hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment that travels with President Obama, including his Teleprompters. Officials recovered the truck on Monday. Here's the NBC 12 breakdown of the caper: When you see President Obama speak, there is a pretty typical setup including the presidential seal on a podium, the see-thru Teleprompter and a portable sound system. Thieves saw the truck carrying that equipment and couldn't resist the target.

CHICAGO—A federal judge on Monday delayed the sentencing for ousted Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich on multiple corruption convictions, including attempted extortion for trying to sell or trade President Barack Obama's vacated U.S. Senate seat in exchange for campaign donations or a high-paying job. A three-sentence notice posted electronically by U.S. District Judge James Zagel said simply that Mr. Blagojevich's Oct. 6 sentencing date has been "stricken until further order by the court." ... Mr. Blagojevich faces a maximum sentence of around 300 years in prison—though federal guidelines dictate he get far less. Most legal experts say Judge Zagel is likely...

Freshman Congressman Jeff Landry, R-La., says that President Obama is misusing recess appointments, and he's going to do something about it. "When the president puts up nominees, they go through the confirmation process, and the senate blocks them or doesn't confirm them, and then he waits for a recess appointment just to appoint those people. He is circumventing the Constitution," said Landry on Fox News Saturday.

Barry Rubin cites Matt Bradley's Wall Street Journal interview with Amr Moussa -- the leading candidate in Egypt's presidential race -- to highlight the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood to power in Egypt's coming elections. Bradley quotes Moussa indirectly: "It is inevitable, he said, that parliamentary elections in September will usher in a legislature led by a bloc of Islamists, with the Brotherhood at the forefront." The "bloc" will include Salafists who are even more maniacal than the Muslim Brotherhood. The rise of the Muslim Brotherhood to power in the coming election was easily foreseeable. Indeed, Rubin himself foresaw it...

The US has released five video clips of Osama bin Laden that it says was taken from the Pakistani compound where the leader of al-Qaeda was reportedly killed last week. The videos mainly show bin Laden rehearsing taped remarks, but there is also video showing him watching news coverage of himself on TV. Al Jazeera's Rosiland Jordan, reporting from the Pentagon in Washington DC, said that the video clips were shown to journalists, but the sound was removed from them. "We did see a video of Osama bin Laden watching video of himself on what appears to be Al Jazeera,"...

NEW YORK - NBC News said Tuesday it has reprimanded the employee responsible for mistakenly flashing a picture of Osama bin Laden on MSNBC as Chris Matthews talked about Barack Obama. "This mistake was inexcusable," MSNBC spokesman Jeremy Gaines said. It happened during the opening of "Hardball" Monday evening. Matthews was previewing a story on the controversy over Obama's use of another politician's words, and a picture of bin Laden briefly flashed on the screen beside him with the headline "Words About Words." The Obama campaign immediately called NBC to complain, and Matthews apologized on the air a few minutes...

The media said Obama took the majority of the youth vote under 30. In other words he owns the indoctrinated. This is a group that will tell you George Bush brought down the WTC but can't tell you who Ramsey Yousef is. This is a group that will swear we went to war with Iraq because Cheney wanted the oil but can't tell you why Cheney called for the end to hostilities after liberating Kuwait. This is a group that can't tell you what ANY of the specifics are of Obama's proposals. I suppose we can give them a pass...

For Barack Obama it was a daring move: hold a rally last week in the heart of New York, the fortress home of his rival, Senator Hillary Clinton. It seemed to pay off. As he bounded onto the stage in Manhattan's Washington Square in front of a packed crowd of 25,000, he beamed his broad smile and shouted: 'Look at this crowd!' Obama's gamble seemed to have worked. It generated a...
