(AP barf alert) Analysis: Reimagining Obama after gutsy raid
AP via Yahoo ^ | Fri May 6, 6:15 pm ET | By NANCY BENAC

Posted on 05/07/2011 12:02:24 PM PDT by a fool in paradise

It was just a firehouse chat with the guys of Engine 54 in lower Manhattan. But President Barack Obama delivered a message he hopes will also hit home with every American in this week of national catharsis: "You're always going to have a president and an administration who's got your back."

In the denouement to the daring raid that brought down Osama bin Laden, the president has in effect been reintroduced to the nation.

While taking care to strike the right tone — trying to savor the success of the dramatic covert operation without appearing to gloat — Obama has offered himself as a decisive leader willing to take bold risks.

He's gotten a bump in the polls that isn't likely to last. But Americans may well come away with altered perceptions of a president whose strongest personal qualities in past polls have run to squishier traits like being a good communicator and friendly.

"It sheds a new light on him," says pollster Andrew Kohut, president of the Pew Research Center. "What happened here may improve impressions that he is a strong and forceful leader, and that's the enduring potential benefit."

Obama's understated victory lap — not that he would ever call it that — continued on Friday in Kentucky...

But it is inescapable that he is not only a president. He also is a candidate for re-election. And the successful raid can only do him good politically...

No, I wouldn't call it "understated" either.

But he said he doesn’t want to spike the football. Oh, he means waving it in the face of Islamist radicals who SUPPORTED Osama Bin Laden. He doesn’t mind taking all the credit “Obama killed Osama” himself.

Waiting for the drumbeats of “war crime” to bang louder at what Obama did last week.

So sick of this “gutsy” crap. What was so gutsy about it? It was a no brainer. Who wouldn’t have taken the opportunity to nail Bin Laden? It’s like saying it was gutsy to bend down to pick up the $100 bill you found on the sidewalk. Who wouldn’t?

And “understated” victory lap? It was about as understated as a nuclear war.

“You’re always going to have a president and an administration who’s got your back.”

Interesting that he chose the word always. Hopefully he was referring to the office and not himself.

"Friendly"?

Maybe to donors at fundraisers...Otherwise, cold and aloof. The least personable president in decades--perhaps since Nixon or Hoover (and I think they tried to be friendly, just weren't very good at it, whereas Obama has contempt for most people).

I think we've had enough "p'ew" to last forever. Let's get a new president. This one, B.O., stinks.

John Thune of South Dakota.

No kidding. I keep wondering when the magic moment will arrive, and he proclaims himself Osagyefo and President-for-Life.

Some people think he keeps poking conservatives in hopes someone will get mad and give the Obammunists their Reichstag Fire moment.

I agreed with this headline until I realized it was "gutsy" and not "gusty." The wind from Obama's MSM enablers - with speeds approaching Obama's own velocities - has been blowing constantly for days.

The author also said that Obama had a risk to his presidency if this had botched (in explaining why the previous presidents who led to Bin Laden’s capture don’t get to share the glory for their policies).

Jimmy Carter (their example of a FAIL in Iran) made his own mess. And he continues to cause problems with the Middle East.

It was very gutsy - gutsy for the amazing Navy SEALs who brought it off. Meanwhile, President Hussein sits in the White House and waffles over the destruction of the American economy, or goes out to play golf.

Good news that Osama is dead; bad news that it was Obama who gets the credit. When it was all Bush’s policies and infrastructure that set up the kill.

And what makes it doubly depressing is that we HAD that SOB back in December of 2001 but Bush stepped back to let our “allies” take over... and totally botch the job.

How typical of a Republican President to “be nice” or “get along” or “reach out to the other side” or whatever the correct terminology of the day is/was!

Notice that Obama (as much as we hate him) didn’t make that STUPID STUPID STUPID mistake. He sent OUR boys in to do the job RIGHT with no thought or consultation with our “allies” (I know, in opposition to everything he claimed in his campaign, but so what, he didn’t talk tough but he acted tough... meanwhile “cowboy Bush” ends up with the same results as a wussy Nancy Pelosi!).

How sad.

How depressing.

What a different world we would be in right now if Bush had had b*lls back in 2001 and sent in our own boys to kill Bin Ladin dead as a doornail early on in the war.

How sad.

How depressing.

The Kenyan King gets the credit.

The Kenyan King has more b*lls than the Texas Cowboy.

How sad.

How depressing.

Obama is the Rosie Ruiz President.

From Wikipedia: Rosie Ruiz Vivas (born 1953, Havana, Cuba) is a Cuban American who on April 21, 1980 crossed the finish line before all other women runners in the 84th Boston Marathon and was initially credited as the first place female competitor, but was later stripped of her title when it was found that she had not run the entire course.

Obama is the Rosie Ruiz President.

A very appropriate description.

What I fail to understand is why we are praising B. Hussein Obama for doing the job he spent hundreds of millions of dollars to obtain. That assumes, of course, that he actually made the "gutsy call," a conclusion for which evidence is sorely lacking.

Besides...the "gutsy" people were the Seals who participated in the successful raid. To them, B. Hussein Obama is no doubt merely a credit-stealing hanger-on.

I find Obama consistently irritating but it is difficult to blame him for the manic schoolgirl media’s reaction.

The historical understanding of this event is not going to turn out according to sappy and ridiculous Huffington/Politico/Salon journolist junk-food. As could have been predicted, they’re exulting in a stroke of good fortune, but this raid was a huge risk, things might have gone down quite differently.

Over time the enthusiasm will subside and people will naturally wonder about why this took over a year to nail down. Assuming that John Brennan/Hillary/Panetta and the rest had become *SO CERTAIN* that bin Laden himself would be relaxing at home that day (much less: lightly guarded, unarmed, in his pajamas). Of course now they say they were positive of it, victory has many fathers.

Why YES the raid WAS Daring. Hats off to the Navy Seal team.

I thank Obama for giving them the nod, but the decision was hardly daring...it was glaringly obvious.

The media is giving Obama a very very very low bar, and after 16 hours he managed to hop across and reluctantly make a no-brainer decision the right way. Well congratulations! Heck, all hail the commander-in-chief for not being a complete dunce on every decision he makes...just most of them.

They are calling Obama “gutsy” now as a way to rebrand him.

They didn’t want to mention the WIMP factor. They had not qualms about using that meme against Bush or W (remember “chicken hawks” (another subtle homosexual slur, by the way)).

Reminds me of John Kerry returning to Vietnam to shoot some "hero" footage for later use as a politician.
