The Obama administration has launched a quiet campaign over the past two months to seize from local officials a key drug used in lethal injections -- part of a spreading investigation that has contributed to a de facto death penalty freeze in several states.

The investigation stems from concerns about the overseas source of the drug, though some question whether those concerns make a handy excuse to slow the pace of executions.

"States have death penalty laws, and the federal government is trying to make it harder for the states to execute those laws," Saunders said.

Obama may have given orders to kill Bin Laden (it would have been a huge outcry, if he didn't), but he is still working on protecting the worst criminals (see article above) and prosecuting CIA agents who interrogate terrorists to keep us safe and prevent terror attacks.

Executions are legal and limited to those convicted of very serious crimes. As long as the drug works reasonably fast and doesn’t cause agony while being injected, who cares what is in it or if it is “safe”? The criminal is supposed to die and not be cured of cancer or whatever. The drug’s origin or manufacturer is not relevant to this particular use.

We should use heroin overdose for executions. There is no way anyone could rationally construe it as "cruel and unusual," because death by heroin overdose is neither. People do it voluntarily and, even after a near brush with death, will do it again.
