SACRAMENTO (CBS13) There is now a shocking new strategy to fight copper crime. Street lights are now staying on 24-hours a day in one Sacramento neighborhood and the city is banking on live wires to keep criminals away.
The city now figures keeping them turned on will save money, by warding off copper thieves; keeping the lights on mean live wires, and the unlucky thief who doesnt know better could be electrocuted.
Its quite a warning, from a city thats been hit hard by the copper crime.
OK' these people cannot be this stupid.
Street lights have photocells sensors to turn then on or off. The power is always on to them.
I can understand turning off the sensors to leave them on 24/7 to "fool" the thieves into thinking they are juiced
Great old lamps.
My first thought exactly.
Bubba tried to outrun the highway patrol. Highway patrol finally caught Bubba and puled him over.
Highway patrol - Why were you driving so fast Bubba?
Bubba - Well, last week my wife ran off with a cop. I thought it was you trying to bring her back!!
Maybe we should electrify our hard-earned money to stop politicians from stealing it?
They have their own power plant and lighting department. They refuse to let Detroit Edison do the job.
You're no buzz-kill here. Call it occupational hazard, and if they lose they can file a claim with their insurer. *\;^)
Different streetlights operate different ways. If I understand correctly you are suggesting that someone would have to go up each pole to apply a piece of electrical tape over each eye. I doubt it.
That depends, does she have any gold teeth or artificial joints that could be “sold.”
“More than one instance in the Atlanta area of people trying to buy foreclosed homes and upon inspection finding wallboard and floorboard ripped out and all copper wiring and copper plumbing gone.”
Like this is new??
They have been doing it to Jimma Carter’s habitat-for-crack-dealers homes for years....
Algore’s gonna be mad. I bet they’re not even buying the proper carbon offsets.
