The U.S. Senate today overcame a Republican filibuster and approved a former Planned Parenthood abortion business director, John McConnell, as a federal judge in Rhode Island.

Senators voted 63-33 to surpass the 60-vote threshold necessary to stop the filibuster and approve the nomination of McConnell’s nomination to the District Court for the District of Rhode Island. his nomination previously cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee recently on a party-line 11-7 vote.

Senate Republicans joining all Democrats to end debate included Scott Brown of Massachusetts, Susan Collins of Maine, Lyndsey Graham of South Carolina, Johnny Isakson of Georgia, Mark Kirk of Illinois, John McCain of Arizona, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Olympia Snowe of Maine, and John Thune of South Dakota.

McConnell was confirmed on party lines in a 50-44 vote afterwards.

>> I have a feeling that Thune is going to be absolutely excoriated for this knife-in-the-back through thousands of phone calls and e-mails in the coming weeks. Hopefully, he’s replaced by a conservative in the next election. <<

I doubt it. During his first term he joined the Dems in being 1 of only 2 Republicans (the other was George Voinovich) helping kill John Bolton's nomination as UN ambassador, joined John McCain's "gang of 10", helped ultra-RINOs Mark Kirk, Charlie Crist, John McCain, Lisa Murkowski, etc., in their primaries, was named Porker of the Month for all the federal taxpayers gravy he brought to South Dakota, defended the TARP bailouts, and said the GOP should continue to be "bipartisan" with Obama after he shoved Obamacare down our throats.

He was then unopposed in the 2010 primary, and a bunch of freepers swooned over the thought of giving him a promotion to the White House for 2012.

The Democrats punk’d the GOP last election. Crossover voters in primaries pushed for McCain (as they had in 2000).

The order of the primaries needs a major shakeup.

RINOs one and all - all in favor of infanticide!

Will someone rid us of these vermin in the Senate?

True conservative/Rising GOP Star/Future Presidential nominee/Christian Patriot John Thune on the issues:

Confirm decorated, no-nonscene foreign policy statesman and staunch pro-American advocate as U.S. Ambassador?

HELL NO!!!

Confirm millitantly pro-abortion, ultra liberal, unqualified Democrat Party hack as federal Judge?

HELL YES!!

Thune’s not up until 2016. I betcha few in SD will remember this vote 5 years from now, and if they bring it up, Thune will say that he opposes filibusters for District Court Judges and that he believes that all such nominees deserve an up-or-down vote, and that will be that.

He didn’t have ANY opponent in the last election.

Bingo. The fact Thune got a free pass from conservatives in 2010 has just emboldened him to feel he can cut whatever deals he wants with the RATs and conservatives will still kiss his butt. He now gets six years before facing voters again and that's a lifetime in politics. The failure of the conservative base to hold Thune accountable for betraying us on Bolton and for his big spending policies was a huge mistake, IMO. Especially coming from the freepers who always sanctimoniously lecture us about how we should focus on Senate races so-called "red states".

Not only was Thune totally unopposed in both the primary and general (meaning all the donations to him were used by his PAC to elect RINOs like Murkowski), but a great number of conservatives stroked this guy's ego and talked him up as Presidential material when he had a mediocre record. It must be very good to be John Thune right now. Make pretty public speeches about what a devout Christian conservative you are (sprinkling tons of references to your staunch pro-life, pro-gun, and pro-family beliefs), then wine and dine the beltway insiders behind the scenes and sellout to whatever scheme they want in exchange for political clout in the Senate and $$$ for South Dakota. If there is any fallout when you get caught selling your soul, it will be forgotten in five years.

He's another politician who's caught a fatal dose of beltway fever.

None of the closure votes surprised me. A couple were disappointing, like Saxby Chambliss -- since there was a good chance they'd vote the right way -- but every Republican who voted for closure is ALREADY known for being wobbly and cutting deals with Dems in the past. The only that surprised me is that Dick Lugar was NOT one of the closure votes. So John Thune voting for closure? Not a surprise. John Thune being called a conservative christian patriot and Lindsey Graham being called a homosexual RINO scumbag when they vote identically 95% of the time? That's surprising. So many conservaitves value rhetoric over actual record.

It shouldn’t have surprised you that Lugar voted for cloture of the McConnell nomination—he represents a conservative state and his seat is up in 2012. The only Republicans from conservative states to vote for cloture were those whose seats aren’t up until 2014 or 2016 (Chambliss, Isakson, McCain, Graham, Murkowski, Alexander and Thune); only Brown and Snowe, from liberal Massachusetts and Maine (although Maine ain’t quite *that* liberal) voted for cloture while being up in 2012.

Proof that RINOs are as bad as, if not worse than, Dems. They're actually worse because they're supposed to be conservative. They're actually just the other hand of the Dems.

They’re arguably worse because they play on our trust, then betray. At least the Dems let you know in advance they don’t give a damn about us.

RINO’s are in league with the devil. They are the friend of my enemy but they are worse than my enemy. They claim to believe in freedom and the Constitution but they believe only in their own power and their ability to compromise their principles to keep their power. Their tyranny too, must be ended.
