Newsmax story ^

Former Virginia Govs. George Allen and Timothy Kaine are tied in the race for retiring Democratic Sen. James Webb’s seat. Both are polling at 46 percent among registered Virginia voters 18 months before the election, The Washington Post reported.

The Democratic Kaine shows strength in the powerful and populated Northern Virginia, while the Republican Allen polls well in the rest of the state. Both must overcome negatives: Kaine for his close association with President Barack Obama’s policies as head of the Democratic National Committee and Allen for his “macaca” comment that derailed his 2006 Senate re-election bid , the Post reported.

The rest of the state needs to have a massive turnout to overcome those Northern Virginia cities.

Here we go!
First of all, this “poll” is crap because the election is so far away.
Secondly, Allen just needs to show some spine, stand up to the macaca being thrown at him and make the conservative message resonate - we are a primarily conservative state.
Lastly, Kaine is such an Obummer butt-kisser...this is Allen’s to lose.
IMO

Hey, Scott - howzitgoin’?
I agree except, having lived in No Va a few times while in military, there are a few spots in No Va that are pretty conservative - case in point: Ken Cucinelli’s district.
So even in No Va, there are some relatively sane folks...
and looking at the numbers in the win of McDonnell, Allen can do this if he’s runs it well...I also think he’s getting lots of help from Obummer.

On the one hand I can understand why these numbers break this way. In 2006 when George Allen lost he was the victim of a vicious smear campaign by the Washington Post which was relentless in its drumbeat against our Republican. The "Macaca" comment was so much contrived ado about nothing but it does demonstrate the ability of a media outlet to create a story by repeating it day after day on the front page, much like the New York Times and the Washington Post did with the Abu Ghraib allegations.

But the times have changed and the power of the Washington Post to dominate Virginia's politics has substantially diminished since 2006.

Further Kaine was a reasonably popular governor so when one considers these factors the polling is understandable. But what is not understandable is that the people of the Old Dominion must understand that their vote is federalized. These people should have recognized by now the very grave danger of giving the Democrats power. The first 2 years of the Obama administration should have demonstrated to every Virginia and 2 every sentiment American the absolute peril of giving the Democrats undiluted power.

The selection, like all the elections coming up, must be nationalized and it must be pitted against Obama. The Republicans must make it clear that a vote for Kaine is a vote to sustain high gas prices, high unemployment, high taxes, low home values, and general malaise and disintegration. A vote for Kaine is a vote for Obama.

Nationalize the damn election!

Greetings!! Gloucester County here. IMO, Allen should pay whatever Gov. McDonnell's 2009 campaign team would want and reassemble it for his run.

McDonnell kept issues on the economic plane, venturing onto the social turf where needed, but maintaining a steady economic message. He even pulled in a high percentage of the latinos without even broaching the subject of immigration. McDonnell ran the most disciplined political campaign for a GOPer that I've ever seen and others should use it as an instructional touchstone for their own campaigns. If Allen stays on message and doesn't bite the racism bait the dems set out last time, he should be fine.

Totally agree - it was cringe worthy to see Allen take the bait from that Webb weasel and self-destruct...
also, was not too impressed by the female who was state Repub chrman at the time. After the epic fail, she went to work for Allen in DC and is on Hannity sometimes...elitist RINO!
