Texas Burning (Obama's War Against Texas)
National Review Online ^ | 5/10/2011 | Kevin D. Williamson

Posted on 05/10/2011 4:24:08 PM PDT by mojito

In case you’ve missed it, Texas has seen about 3,400 square miles of land — an area about the size of Puerto Rico — destroyed by wildfires. Pres. Barack Obama hit Texas to do some political fund-raising and give some speeches about immigration; Gov. Rick Perry suggested that he take a gubernatorially guided tour of some of the damage. The president couldn’t be bothered, but asked the governor to come to El Paso to act as a prop at a political event. Governor Perry declined.

Governor Perry often complains that the federal government simultaneously fails to do its real work and involves itself in things that are not real national priorities. The last time the president visited Texas, Governor Perry greeted him with a letter in hand demanding that the federal government execute its border-security duties. (It still won’t.) The governor is asking for a federal emergency declaration that will make additional firefighting resources available. The Obama administration is not budging.

[....]

In Texas, President Obama has more important things to do, such as raising money and pandering to Hispanic voters by dangling the promise of “comprehensive” immigration reform before them, knowing that it’s a go-nowhere proposition. He’ll visit a city on a border that his government controls about as well as President Zardari controls his, and which is at times about as dangerous.

Perry would have better luck with Joe Biden.

Not to mention they are removing the ‘virtual fence’ system (or probably already did).

Money for the fence was allocated before O ever entered office. Here’s some info:

http://www.globalsecurity.org/security/systems/mexico-wall.htm

“For fiscal years 2006 through 2009, the SBI program received about $3.6 billion in appropriated funds. Of this amount, by late 2008 about $2.4 billion had been allocated to complete approximately 670 miles of vehicle and pedestrian fencing along the roughly 2,000 miles of border between the United States and Mexico. In March the Tactical Infrastructure / Border Fence Program was transferred to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Finance, Facilities Management and Engineering (FM&E) from the Secure Border Initiative (SBI).

As of January 22, 2010, CBP had completed roughly 643.3 miles of fencing.”

Let’s break this down:

Virtual fence canceled:

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/15/us/politics/15fence.html

Screening Southbound shipments, Chertoff announced this on 7/2005:

“After September 11th, this country put in place vital measures intended to protect the global movement of marine cargo that touches our shores before it moves into the interior of the country. U.S. Customs and Border Protection is screening all inbound containers and inspecting those that merit further scrutiny. And increasingly, this screening and inspection is taking place at the port of departure overseas, before cargo arrives in the United States. “

http://www.tsa.gov/press/releases/2005/press_release_0606.shtm

Maybe he needs to screen northbound trains:

Only 20 percent of us northbound trains scanned:

We tripled the number of intelligence analysts working the border.

What do the intelligence analysts do, look at drone photos and say, yep that is a bunch of wetbacks crossing?

'I hope that they puked in it first.'

After consuming about eight ounces of semi-digested Gorgonzola?

Does anybody know about the talking point that El Paso is a city with lower than average crime?

“Does anybody know about the talking point that El Paso is a city with lower than average crime?”

It means that there is an enforcement bubble over the city of El Paso in order to hold the crime stats low for the city itself.

But the surrounding counties which aren’t included in the city stats aren’t as heavily policed and are wide open for the Mexican cartels to carry on their drug and people smuggling. It’s just another method that the Open Border lobby uses to deceive the public.

“Money for the fence was allocated before O ever entered office. Here’s some info:”

But Dubya, like Obama, had no intention of building the fence and wanted “comprehensive immigration reform”. Or as the rest of us call it, amnesty.

My point was that approx 90% (of what has been accomplished on this so called fence) was accomplished before O ever reached office). Now O is taking credit for it. Kind of like, the heavy lifting for locating Osama was done before O ever reached office, and he is now taking credit for the capture.
