Gwinnett Co. Woman Shoots, Kills Home Intruder Victim Unharmed

A Gwinnett County woman shot and killed an intruder Wednesday morning.

According to police, the 53-year-old woman was in the shower when the man broke into her home on E. Mount Tabor Circle.

The intruder went into the bathroom with a kitchen knife and attempted to assault the woman, according to police. The woman fell in the shower and hit her attacker with the shower rod.

Police said the intruder forced the woman into the bedroom where where its believed he was going to sexually assault her.

The victim was able to retrieve her .22 cal. pistol and shoot the attacker multiple times.

The man ran into the backyard and collapsed, police said. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Women who live nearby said that the intruder got what he deserved.

“I know she did the right thing and I’m glad it ended up that way,” said Gina Brown, a neighbor. "Better that he got it than she got it,” Brown said.

“I’m a good Christian woman, but I’d do the same thing,” Marsha Day, another neighbor said.

The victim was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth with minor injuries and is expected to be okay.

She is not expected to be charged.

“We have absolutely no problem with any civilian defending themselves (against) any kind of deadly threat such as this," said Cpl. Edwin, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.

With five SS cards on him no doubt they are having to use the moneygram and phonecard in his pocket to track down family

Could be that or could be Amish. We'll know when they release the name. Gwinnett has a lot of hispanic "immigrants."

Is there ever going to be an open season on Environuts? They're so many of them they're not an endangered species.

I'll settle for tungsten carbide core in a discarding nylon sabot. Not as good as uranium, but not subject to corrosion either. (never know when the bad guys are going to be wearing body armor)

Good thing it wasn’t a SWAT team raiding the wrong address or she’d be dead.

Yes but I'm sure they would have followed departmental guidelines, after all it's not their fault if they kill someone since they are just following orders, and you want them to go home to their families at night don't you? (Do I need the sarcasm tag?)

It really behooves society to pay a bounty when a citizen metes out justice at no cost to the taxpayer. She may need counseling or just a nice vacation after this horrible experience, and a couple thousand bucks would be appreciated.

It would have cost Gwinnet Co. many many thousands more than that to arrest, incarcerate, try and provide years of medical, educational, and legal services to the would-be rapist/murderer.

Interesting idea, but not sure how it would work. Would I get paid a bounty if I came in to the police dept with a bundle of heads with gang tats on them?

"During the post tornado power outage in the Huntsville, AL area the Sheriff for Madison County repeatedly said, “people have the right to protect themselves and their property”. And I took him at his word. While my family had the capability to leave town and go where they had power, I stayed home - and basically wore my .357 for 5 days. Thankfully, Huntsville had no major problems.

....with any civilian defending themselves....

So.... is this guy in the military? If not, then HE IS A CIVILIAN TOO.

This guy needs to learn it, love it, live it.

Not in his mind and in de facto reality he isn't. If he kills someone he has to follow a lot lower standards than you or I do. Some years ago the Atlanta police raided the wrong house and killed a 92 year old woman - shot her and then according to departmental guidelines let her bleed out. They then tried to cover it up. They got caught. You or I would be looking at the death penalty. The few cops who were charged were charged with "violating oath of office." As I recall longest sentence was 7 years. Probably out now

"take..away"

You'd be surprised at how many people offer that inane argument as a reason for disarming people. After 9/11 when there was talk about arming pilots, I talked to more than a few people who laughed and said the criminals/terrorists would just take the guns away from the pilot. This after 9/11. Sure, a very likely military trained pilot will allow a bunch of terrorists to take his or her gun away away knowing that the terrorists, most likely Islamist fanatics, will crash the plane somewhere. Every account, naturally never printed in mainstream publications, of average citizens, especiallly females, using guns to defend him or herselves destroys the "they'll just take your gun away" stupid argument.

>>My sole advice...get a larger caliber gun...you want no one on the plantiff stand in some lawyer induced suit against you.<<

Reality is that the doctors were the ones who finished this guy. They had to cut him every way from Sunday to stop the internal bleeding and remove the half dozen bullets she put in him. A .22 bullet will bounce, hop and ricochet inside a person like a rapper at a prom dance. Up, down, around and around.

The best part is that she was able to handle her little .22 that everyone considers so insufficient to do the job. The fact that it wasn’t doing any immediate visually stunning damage to the attacker as we see on TV shows is what would prompt her to aim better and keep firing.

What caliber do ranchers use to put down injured stock? Yup, if a .22 will drop a 1400 pound cow as fast as a lighting bolt will, it’ll take a man down too.

"Take it away"

I managed to shut up one of the people I know who came up with that by saying he was welcome to come by my house and take my gun away if he could, and what time was he planning on doing this so I'd be sure to be home and have an EMT ready, but he didn't take me up on it. Nevertheless, I'm sure the jackass was braying the same tune to someone else later. Logic doesn't enter anti-gunner's pointy little heads. Gun control is a form of religion. For the true believer no proof is necessary, and no disproof possible (Stuart Chase)

Well it looks like a double dip for you. Both Cuban national in the country three years, no mention of legality, and Amish. They put up online the Cuban part and it quickly disappeared saying he was from Alpharetta.

I can’t help but note that the Gwinnett Police just happened to have an onfile mug shot of the guy for the press. So now there are even more questions about this guy.

“”My sole advice...get a larger caliber gun””

When you can hit all the vital spots with 10 out of 11 bullets, the caliber won’t matter. That’s what happened in this case. The investigators said that only one bullet went astray. She emptied the .22 clip and was reaching for her .38 when the creep exited the house through the back and she fled from the front...

Does it come with a lanyard so you can hang it next to your soap on a rope while in the shower?

Ah, there you are. I pinged the wrong Freeper. Glad you found this thread. So she hit him 10 bullets out of 11? That is outstanding shooting!
