Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said that while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has not given specific time for opening the Morganza Spillway on the Mississippi River upstream from New Orleans to reduce the possibility of downstream flooding, state and local officials are taking action now to get prepared and constructing barriers to protect people and property from the flood.
The Corps has said it would likely open the Spillway this weekend to divert Mississippi floodwaters into the Atchafalaya River basin, but it has not named a specific time for the opening.
We dont have the time to wait for official notice. Its critical that Louisianians get prepared now to protect their families and homes, Jindal said in an announcement released by the Governors Office.

When does the flood reach the NOLA area? Want to keep a close eye on the news then.
Thank God he’s at the helm instead of Memaw.
I haven’t read anything about that artificial levy/dam that is in place to keep the river going to New Orleans instead of taking a shortcut to the Gulf. If that ever lets go that will be a real disaster.
They are not going to let New Orleans flood. To prevent such an event, they will open the spillways to what ever level they believe is required and if the river levee at NOLA still appears to be stressed, they will destroy the river levee downstream from NOLA.
How many times does nature have to smack them in the face before the Corp(se) understands that the levee system is bunk?
Obummer will send in the corpse when he is darn good and ready ...
lol
I’ve got to hand it to Jindal for being a real leader during his state’s natural disasters.
