Obama finally decides to drill soon, drill here and there
Hotair ^ | 05/14/2011 | Ed Morrisey

Posted on 05/14/2011 12:41:53 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

You know, in about 15 years or so, Barack Obama might actually come up with an energy policy that increases energy and grows the economy. After five months of escalating political heat, Obama finally decided that we could drill our way out of our problems — or at least his problems:

Facing continued public unhappiness over gas prices, President Barack Obama is directing his administration to ramp up U.S. oil production by extending existing leases in the Gulf of Mexico and off Alaska’s coast and holding more frequent lease sales in a federal petroleum reserve in Alaska.

Obama said Saturday that the measures “make good sense” and will help reduce U.S. consumption of imported oil in the long term. But he acknowledged anew that they won’t help to immediately bring down gasoline prices topping $4 a gallon in many parts of the country.

Is this leadership? No, it’s more like covering one’s party mascot:

His announcement followed passage in the Republican-controlled House of three bills — including two this week — that would expand and speed up offshore oil and gas drilling. Republicans say the bills are aimed at easing gasoline costs, but they also acknowledge that won’t be immediate.

The White House had announced its opposition to all three bills, which are unlikely to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate, saying the measures would undercut safety reviews and open environmentally sensitive areas to new drilling.

Wow — sounds bad, huh? Why would anyone listen to Republican policies that do all that?

But Obama is adopting some of the bills’ provisions.

In fact, most of this action deals with extensions for existing leases, rather than new drilling. Instead of approving extension requests individually, Obama will issue blanket one-year extensions in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. The lease sales for the Gulf that Obama announced were supposed to take place last year. They’re not new leases. Obama did pledge to hold annual lease sales in Alaska’s North Slope area, where they had been ad hoc in the past, which is the only hint of new expansion in his remarks.

This isn’t leadership. It’s a threadbare attempt at triangulation that doesn’t add much new capacity at all, nor does it speed up the process of exploration and extraction. The White House will drag its heels on expansion of American production as long as possible; this announcement just buys Obama some time and a respite from the political fallout of high gas prices. Still, the fact that Obama had to protect himself in this manner shows how politically damaging his refusal to expand American production has become, and how damaging it will continue to be.

I don’t disagree.

My point is that 0bama’s policies are benefitting foreign-owned and manned.

He is giving away our resources.

Obama’s Plan Is To Come Up With A Plan To Convince People He Has A Plan On Gas Prices

Written By : John Hawkins

Obama hates the oil industry, he’s blocking drilling in ANWR, he still has the clamps down on drilling in the Gulf — in other words, if it increases the price of oil, he’s in favor. If he were honest, Obama would simply make the case to the American people for high gas prices. But of course, Obama’s not honest. He’s a diehard socialist with a moderate candy shell designed to trick people into swallowing his leftism.

One has to wonder what new Rat mischief adventure is going to pop out of this one. Pardon the cynicality, but when it’s Obama involved, he never disappoints intrigue-seekers. Never.

Three years ago when gas was over $4 a gallon, W lifted the drilling ban. By Christmas 2008, it was under $2. Now Hussein is going to drill to alleviate the high gas prices. Just another example of Hussein using the thoroughly berated Bush plan.

This is pure political propaganda.

He says ONE THING,but aspouses ANOTHER

1. So, you wanna drill? The devil is in the DETAILS. How long for the permit? How much? How many EPS studies? Oh look, a 3 legged Hoover lizard!!! Sorry chums, can’t drill here. What’s that? We found a spotted humperdink in wetlands? Tsk, tsk, tsk, sorry bud but your permit is denied....thanks for the billion dollars in fees and permits...CHUMPS!!!

2. Hey, we said you could drill, but after 2012 all bets are off boyos.

3. We’re too busy buying our oil from Brazil. How do you say Drill Baby Drill in Portugese??? Simple:

berbequim baby berbequim !!!

4. That two billion dollar land permit just went up to four billion....sucks to be you. If the EPS balks, you WON’T get a refund. Of course, you can donate to our campaign coffers for a “waiver”.

5. Obama is just trying to look good for 2012, perhaps fool the speculators. Fooling is one thing, but if the oil tanks don’t get filled (supply) then all the posturing won’t help in the price....and the speculators know this.

To make matters worse

Leasing? no problem

Permits? When hell freezes over; not one mention of permits.

The whole thing is a publicity stunt with no truth.

But in reality no one will get a permit to drill. Don’t go by what he says, go by what he does.

Undoubtedly, Obama’s various flunkies, the few that have a grasp of basic economics, have shoved the facts in front of his nose: start exploring and drilling for oil or face ever higher gas prices and no second term. Obviously, Obama does not want to do this, but his lust for power will probably make him make concessions. Not a lot, but just enough to trumpet himself as seeking solutions.

BO is just saying ... ‘it’s time to start drilling’... only to have election sound bites for his useful idiots in the press. The man is a liar and a traitor to his oath to the Constitution. He will say anything to get himself elected because he has the lefty press in his hip pocket. The only thing he believes in is ‘programs’...that’s his whole life.

“Now Hussein is going to drill to alleviate the high gas prices. Just another example of Hussein using the thoroughly berated Bush plan.”

Obama is NOT going to do anything of the kind. If you read the posts here you will see that he is doing nothing more than stalling for time until he is reelected and he is in no way following any “Bush plan”.

Thanks. You have summed it up correctly.

It is always unbelievable how some freepers though drink the Obama media kool-aid and actually believe the propaganda that they sell.

PRESIDENT OBAMA’S OIL PRODUCTION LIE

Ken Berwitz

What do you call it when a President of the United States lies?

You call it a lie, that’s what. Not a misstatement, not an overview or a point that needs clarification, but a lie.

With that in mind, here is what President Obama at a “town hall meeting” held April 6th in Fairless Hills, PA, while trying to convince people that drilling for more oil is a hopeless strategy:

“We have about 2, maybe 3 percent of the world’s proven oil reserves; we use 25 percent of the world’s oil. So think about it. Even if we doubled the amount of oil that we produce, we’d still be short by a factor of five.”

That is a lie. A straight-up, undeniable lie.

The quickest way to dispense with this utter BS is to point out that we import about 60% of our oil from foreign countries (Anderson Cooper, who no one will ever confuse with a conservative activist, claims the actual percents are 57%-43%).

President Obama asked his audience to “think about it”. Ok, let’s. If we produce 3% of the world’s oil (I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt and using the higher number), and we use 25% of the world’s oil, then we are producing 3/25ths of the oil we use. 3/25ths is 12%.

Can we agree that 12% is not 40%?

And this isn’t even the full extent of the lie. It is actually much worse. Because what Mr. Obama did not mention to his “town hall” attendees, is that “proven reserves” only measures the oil where we have been drilling - not what we have yet to drill for.

So if we start drilling, say, in ANWR or in different areas offshore, or if we start extracting shale oil from the northern midwest region, our proven reserves will jump through the roof. According to Jeff Dunetz, writing for biggovernment.com:

The number is America’s proven reserves where we are already drilling. It does not include the 10 billion barrels available in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It does not include most of the 86 billion barrels available offshore in the Outer Continental Shelf, most of which President Obama has placed under an executive drilling ban. And it does not include the 800 billion barrels of oil we have locked in shale in Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado. Those shale resources alone are actually three times larger than the proven reserves of Saudi Arabia, so the claim that the U.S. only has 2% of the world’s oil is clearly false.

Let me say again what I said at the beginning: President Obama is lying about our oil.

Just as President Obama lies about so many other things.

How can any intelligent person believe a word this man says
