Ben Stein: "Arab Spring" is a fraud
CBS News ^ | May 15, 2011

Posted on 05/15/2011 7:47:39 AM PDT by La Lydia

Now, I am going to tell you the truth about the so-called "Arab Spring," and about the Middle East generally right now. First, the "Arab Spring" as a force for democracy, human rights and peace in Egypt seems to me to be a fraud. The dictator and his entourage who were kicked out in Egypt were pro-West, a bit restrained on Israel, open to free enterprise, and resistant to Iranian-sponsored terror.

Egypt is now rapidly becoming anti-Israel, pro-Iran, pro the Iranian-sponsored terrorist group Hamas, and very far from being pro-human rights. They are arresting businessmen right and left in Egypt just for the crime of being successful. They have arrested Mubarak's sons, and have said they plan to try Mubarak.

The most potent of the political forces in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood, hates the United States, loathes Israel, condemns the killing of bin Laden (whom they praised as a martyr), and have been wedded to terror for their entire existence.

Oh, P.S, they are closely connected with Adolph Hitler. They will probably take over Egypt completely sooner or later....

Has anyone noticed that the common denominator of all the successful Arab street movements is that they are sympathetic to Iran? When the dust settles, Iran is going to own the Middle East - except for maybe Saudi Arabia, if we have the guts to help them (which I very much doubt).

We are going to lose our pals in Bahrain - not nice guys, but pals of the U.S.A. anyway - and we are going to lose our pals in Yemen, and it will possibly have an actual al Qaeda government.

There is a gigantic regional coup by Iran taking place. We are doing very little, if anything, to stop it...

He is “fundamentally changing our country” like he said he would and half of the population is still waiting for the free cheese handout.

Ben Stein's conservative spring is a fraud

What is your point? The article wasn't about Ben Stein claiming to be a conservative.

The reality is that our government can do very little about it. Revolutions must play themselves out and then we deal with what results.

The invasion of Iraq certainly did. Were you and Stein cheering on that action? What Bush and Obama don’t seem to get is democracy is the LAST thing sections of the Middle East should be “blessed” with.

I don’t know what you are talking about. I was happy with the status quo in Egypt. And I agree with you about democracy in the Middle East, having read Montesquieu long ago.

We are not doing "little, if anything, to stop it," rather, the AQ/MB loving Ameica hater, communist, and secret Mudslime in the WH is doing everything he can to make it happen.

The Bush Administration’s long term strategy to eliminate terror was to “drain the swamp” of radicalism in the Middle East through such actions as removing Saddam as the dictator of Iraq and introducing democracy. Heck his 2nd inaugural speech was replete with that silliness.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A23747-2005Jan20.html

Bad idea then and bad idea now. End result was and is a heightening of Iranian influence throughout the Middle East as well as the loss of American power. Lambast Obama all you want but some of us on FR have long memories and will not give Dubya a pass.

“The most potent of the political forces in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood, hates the United States, loathes Israel, condemns the killing of bin Laden (whom they praised as a martyr), and have been wedded to terror for their entire existence. “

Exactly right.

And just remember that Obama forced Mubarak to resign, which allowed the MB to flourish.

It’s all oriented towards a radical Muslim takeover of the Middle East, led by Iran and now they will have nukes too...

Ha ha ha! I wonder if Ben Stein knows he's only now saying what Glenn Beck has been saying for quite a while now.

Sing it, people! "Caliphate! Caliphate! Bow to the Mus-ick"

Thanks for posting this. So far, he is the only one I heard articulate this so clearly.

The MSM is complicit in all this, constantly talking about “the protesters”, without telling us WHO the protesters are and what is their real agenda.

And of course Obama is fully aware and is helping this — he forced Mubarak to resign, but didn’t lift a finger or say a word, when Iran was killing their real democratic protesters.

Ben Stein has reached the point with this child where I pay no attention whatsoever as to his convoluted blaterings.

The view from the WH is that more “reset” and “outreach” to the Muslim world is needed. And just what towering international figure is prepared to guide the Arabs in the ways of democracy? Why, it's none other than mufti-in-chief Barack Hussein:

“US President Barack Obama is expected to call on Middle East governments to respond peacefully to the democratic demands of their citizens, when he delivers a major address on American policy in the region this coming Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Friday.

Obama has always viewed the future of the Middle East and North Africa through the prism of democracy and the yearning of the people there for political freedom and participation in their government, Carney said.

“I’m sure he will call as he has in the past on the governments in the region to respond to those [democratic] demands through peaceful political dialogue,” Carney said.

Governments who have used force against their own people in the name of preserving stability are only creating greater instability, he said.

“We’ve gone through a remarkable period in the first several months of this year in the Middle East and North Africa, and the president obviously has some important things to say about how he views the upheaval and how he has approached the US response to the events in the region,” said Carney.

The scheduling of the speech on May 19, just two days after a visit to Washington by Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Tuesday and a day before Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is set to talk with Obama on Friday, has led to speculation that Obama might be unveiling a new peace plan with regard to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Wall Street Journal on Saturday, however, wrote that according to a senior US official the Obama speech would not focus on the stalled negotiations nor would it serve as a launching pad for new talks.”

>>>>>>He is right on target, and our government is blowing it.<<<<<<

IMHO, He is missing target, in support of "our" government who foments it. No way that the majority of Freepers could see it clearly and U.S. Governemnt with Alphabet soup of agencies supposedly could not.

They know what we do not - what is an endgame.

The powers that be hope to use Muslims as their tool, the same they used Communists and Nazis.

Their joint Communist/Nazi project left more than 100 MILLION dead. How many will die because of "Arab Spring"? 50 million, 100 million or more?

There is a huge difference between secular totalitarian ideologies such as Communisam and Nazism and Islam.

Some people wanted to resist Communism/Nazism and no gulag or konzlager could change that. And they succeeded.

In Islam, Gulag is one's head.

Or, in technical terms, there was a hidden OFF button for Communism/Nazism. In Islam, OFF button is omitted by design. It is either submit or die, until Islam controls the whole world.

How Powers that be hope to switch it off is beyond me.

Perhaps this joke could give us an insight

That’s the only good thing they have done so far. Being ‘successful’ there is being a corrupt SOB, all their illegally obtained properties should be confiscated. I’d be successful too if FedGov gave me Manhattan land for $1 a m2

Regardless your opinion, rule of law and due process should at a minimum be applied. If they broke the law then fine. If they are simply "capitalist" enemies of the collectivist mobs that mimic the 0bamarixts dreams then that is another story all together.

Hey, Freepers, kabar wants to know why I say our gov’t (aka the WH) fermented to unrest...

(I'm thinking maybe kabar has been out of town for a bit - like on another planet, out of reach of news (other the the mainSlimes) and Internet?)

I got something requiring attention on the stove - would y'all like to fill kabar in?
