They may be lapping up a luxury Indian Ocean island honeymoon, but the newlywed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge plan to break with royal tradition and keep only a skeleton personal staff for their day-to-day lives. As Prince William and his wife Catherine near the end of their retreat on a private island in the Seychelles, news broke that the 10-night stay could be costing a whopping 450,000 ($A690,000 ).

German holiday planner Farhad Vladi confirmed that he had rented a private island to the royal family. An island which typically has a $A690,000 daily tariff, Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper reported.

''Prince William and Kate are spending their honeymoon there. But you will understand that we are not saying anything further,'' Mr Vladi said.

It is unknown who's picking up the tab for the royal break, or if the couple received a discount, but on their return to Britain, William, 28, and Catherine, 29, plan to tighten their belts.

As do I.

If any royal couple ever deserved a lavish honeymoon, it is these two.

I am not into royalty at all, but these two strike me as down to earth.

Sounds contradictory to me....what did they do to EARN the money they spent?

Spit!

Then how about a honeymoon in Vegas? ... if they are really that down to earth. :)

Of course, I am ignoring the security costs, etc. etc. :)

That’s cheaper than Air Force One’s bill for one week of the smegma-lipped, chicken feathered Obamaloon.

Any way we could trade the loon for the royals. Heck, even the loony Charles is way, way more intelligent than our t*rd-in-chief.

Their p00p doesn't smell. That entitles them to the lavish lifestyle. They are special. :)

Seriously, most of our ancestors left countries like England for this very reason.

We should try not to make light of it — many people suffered greatly under the Monarchies of Europe. And suffered even more to flee Europe and come to the US.

Why American is great, IMO — only the heartiest and most motivated people came to the US. And they valued freedom and made the best of it because they lived under tyranny.

Just my two cents...

Then how about a honeymoon in Vegas?

No thanks, we already fought a war to get away from royalty

I detest these people.

Lol. Sorry to send them your way. BTW, Vegas is a nice city. We had our honeymoon in Vegas so we must be down to earth.

If the private island has a daily “tariff” of $450,000 and the couple were there for ten days, isn’t the total amount US$ 4.5 million?

If I had an opinion I'd post it but I don't even visit Free Republic.
