Redrawn legislative districts, high voter turnout for the presidential election and continuing demographic shifts are likely to benefit Democrats, political observers of both parties say.
"If you think 2010 was bad," former Senate Republican leader Jim Brulte tells Republicans, "just get a load of what's going to happen in 2012."
Democrats have controlled the Legislature most years since the late 1950s. But in all that time, they have not once held two-thirds majorities simultaneously in both houses.
Voters last year lowered the threshold for budget passage to a simple majority, but tax measures like Gov. Jerry Brown is proposing still require a two-thirds vote under Proposition 13.
The Democratic governor plans to present a revised budget plan this morning. But as his negotiations with Republican lawmakers drag on Brown needs two Republican votes in each house to put tax extensions on a ballot frustrated Democrats are increasingly looking to 2012.
"It's absolutely clear the only permanent solution for California's problems is to elect a two-thirds majority of Democrats in each house of the Legislature," Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez, D-Los Angeles, told delegates at the recent California Democratic Party convention. "That work must begin today."

If this happens the people will get what they deserve...that is for certain...
Do what they did in the Deep South during Reconstruction, GTT! "Gone to Texas" ... Bring your businesses, your guns, your hatred of the Commie Left.
We have no credit and no money left... we will not be paying that debt ever. We could not even pay it if we wanted to... and we do not want to.

Its absolutely clear the only permanent solution for Californias problems is to elect a two-thirds majority of Democrats in each house of the Legislature
That certainly is the final solution for them. Off the cliff.
My thinking exactly. Lets hope the dems get a 75% majority and let them get the state out of the mess they got the state into.
Having Rats run things for the past 40 years has worked so well....
If GM was too big to fail, wait until California threatens to default.
Obama will have a sachel full of cash to Moonbeam’s office faster than you can say “slush fund”.
Unless Boner gets his financial arm of the gov’t under control...to which I say...LOL!!!
As California goes, so goes the nation.
It would be fun to watch the liberal enclaves of Ca, Il, and NY descend into oblivion.
Just bide your time. It’s happening!
If the state fails; there will be no Federal bailout. Gonna be a sad conflagration I fear.
Hope our tea party folks go out and counter door-to-door against this war.
escape from Taxafornia.
I can’t speak for men that I do not trust... but if boehner does not lie and they do not raise the debt limit... the government will be forced to cut spending across the board... and that is the only way that we will ever get things started in the right direction. If boehner caves... America is over and california will not matter anyway.

Very True
“the government will be forced to cut spending across the board”
And, like the budget theatrics, Obama will FIRST cut off military pay and Social Security checks to rile up the sheeple, the media will gleefully report the sob stories, and, in the end, the Repubs will fold.
We’ve already seen, many times, how this soap opera plays out.

“then watch and see what happens.”
Putting off the inevitable only increases the level of pain when the end finally comes.
I felt that way, too, after going back to visit family last summer. The state has a run-down look to it--not what you'd expect for a place where the cost of living is so high. Someone asked me recently if I'm planning on returning to CA at some point; I really couldn't answer. The state I grew up in is gone. It's a shame, its natural beauty is unrivaled .
It sounds as if you think there is a will on both sides to do what is necessary? There is not in either party... but refusing to raise the debt limit will force everyone into reality. It’s either that or nuke us from orbit... “it’s the only way”.

That asks the question, is it that progressive liberalism can now be fully implemented and that will save the state?
Or is progressive liberalism now fully implemented and the state will now fully IMPLODE into a dictatorship?
