SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The Navy is considering naming a cargo ship that's being built after farmworker activist Cesar Chavez.

James Gill, a spokesman for General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, said Monday the company suggested the name to honor its mostly Hispanic work force and the mostly Hispanic neighborhood, Barrio Logan, where the boat builder is located.

We have CC Blvd here in L.A. I spoke with some of the business owners and they still call it by it’s old Blvd name..the “Battery’.

If the Navy wants to honor the “hispanic” crowd, why not USS Speedy Gonzalez?

Well I agree he was a communist, but Cesar himself never killed anyone that we know of.

They might want to do a little reading before they go too far down that road. The dude spent part of his early career trying to get Mexicans shipped back home because they were getting in the way of his attempts to organize Fillipino farm workers.

I think you're thinking of Che Guevara. César Chávez was an American who pushed for unionization of Latinos and "Latino Rights," whatever that means.

People who come up with epically stupid ideas like this seriously need to be institutionalized becuase they have completely lost their grip on reality.

I lived through the terror when the farm workers were forced to join Chavez after he'd threatened to rape their wives and daughters if they didn't join his "union"
