Rick Perry Presidential Push Quietly Gains Steam
RCP ^

Posted on 05/17/2011 12:58:32 PM PDT by Retired Greyhound

As many grass-roots Republicans remain in search of a conservative candidate with the pizazz to go toe-to-toe against President Obama, a man from deep in the heart of Texas who was tea party before the tea party was cool appears to be giving the presidential race some thought. Gov. Rick Perry has insisted on multiple occasions that he has no interest in the presidency, but RCP has learned that political associates have begun to nose around quietly on Perry's behalf. A Texas pol who is close to Perry has been telling a few key strategists that the nation's longest-serving governor sees a vacuum and is waiting to be summoned into the race. This source believes that could happen by late summer. Without fellow Southerners Haley Barbour or Mike Huckabee in the race -- and with Newt Gingrich's early troubles raising further doubts about the current lineup -- there could be a glaring niche for Perry to fill. According to another well-connected Republican, at least one Perry confidant has been very quietly making inquiries about the political terrain in the nation's first voting state of Iowa. A third Perry associate, RCP has learned, has been heralding a small contingent of Iowans with the time-tested line that is often used by would-be candidates who are leaving their options open: "Keep your powder dry." Perry's aides have long made it clear that the tough-talking Texan, who succeeded George W. Bush in Austin in 2000, would not seriously entertain the idea of mounting a White House run before the state's legislative session finishes at the end of this month. That date is now less than two weeks away, and the 2012 presidential field remains fluid.

I see why, but reasonable minds can differ in this regard.

If reasonable minds can differ as to whether or not it is a good idea to endorse an HPV vaccination that protects against SOME strains of HPV that are a cause for most cervical cancer yet is being deceptively marketed as a cervical cancer vaccine, then MANDATING it for all teenage girls is definitely not the mark of a conservative.

850,000 JOBS SINCE TAKING OFFICE! 180,000 JOBS SINCE AUGUST 2009! Can I say it any louder? It's a pretty simple message. Say it over and over. MORE JOBS THAN THE REST OF USA COMBINED!

Your remark about "Texas governor sounds so cool" is goofy. It doesn't even make sense.

But is he really that bad? I'm another out of stater, I know nothing about Perry. Any salvageable good points?)

If you liked John McCain, you would probably LOVE Rick Perry. I voted for him for governor twice. He essentially ran unopposed in the GOP primary since he was the incumbant after assuming the govneror's mansion when W became President. So I voted for him in the primary and then of course voted for him against his democrat opponent in the general. Then, in 2006, his primary opponents were a bunch of even further out of touch RINOs like Kay two-last-names, and Grandma Carole Four-last-names. So I voted for him again in the primary and in the general against his democrat opponent. But each time, I WISHED that we had a more conservative choice in the primary that would be a strong conservative governor.

Speaking Spanish is just one more intellectual thing that Obummer can’t do. Obummer says everyone should speak another language; but he can’t.

Palin endorsed Perry in his contentious primary against Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison early last year, and they are both larger-than-life figures to the tea party rank and file.

The fact that Barbara Bush apparently hates him is a sound endorsement as far as I’m concerned.

“He also can speak Spanish.”

“”All the better to kiss up to illegals with. “”

0bdumer panders to the illegals like he did last week in El Paso and he doesn’t even speak Spanish.

Speaking a language(other than English), I believe, will help any candidate connect with those particular voters.

And is is not necessarily “kissing up” to them just because you can talk to those voters in their native language.

I think it is an asset. I wish the eventual GOP nominee could speak Spanish, Vietnamese, Italian, french etc.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah screw Gov. “Goodhair” /sarc

Just because he is to the right of Obama (but then again who isn't) doesn't mean we should get all excited about the thought of him in the primary. He is John McCain with better hair.

I like Palin here too, but her most useful role is probably a Energy Secretary, which will still allow her to play kingmaker.

In 2005, Perry signed a historic $15.7 billion property tax cut for homeowners

Then explain why my property tax has gone up 31% since he signed that. Must be that fuzzy government math again.

I have been saying that for a while. It is obvious we need a solid energy policy, Palin knows energy and America could get behind her as secretary long before they would get behind her as Pres or VP, IMO.

It's what their homepage says. *shrugging*

Why would they care what Texas schools make as mandatory inoculations? I'm in NY but am concerned because if one state does it.............
