Good bear = dead bear.

My critters’ lives outranks theirs.

I blame Walt Disney and his cartoon entertainment intellectual progeny. Walt was a nice guy, but the anthropomorphization of wild animals has had some weird effects on human thought processes.

I don’t know if bears comprehend being tracked...they do know threats

they kill for threat or food or some cranky ones just kill

like housecats do

I don’t bear hunt but unless they are endangered it’s fine with me...I might shoot one if I wanted a big rug and utilize some of the meat...I prefer herbivore flesh as a rule..even down to grain ducks over divers...that sort of thing

oddly enough we have a had a rash of black bears killing folks down here in mountainous south of late...I think the last was an old sow who killed an old woman taking a picture

you never know...when I was a boy at Lake Bruin(go figure) Louisiana we had swamp blacks that rifled garbage and dead fishlines and stuff..not sure if any are still there or not...they had some at the local state park too...probably under water right now

no one hunted them really not like in Appalachia

we used to hear stories of my grandpa and his old black man...camphouse handyman/fishing buddy/hunting partner...Sylvester and how one got after them from the bank when they were fishing one morning

after that Grandfather always said Sylvester was like Jesus..he could walk on water too

we got a new critter btw:...a bride for Bedford:

She is 100% Johnson...we went down to Georgia yesterday...man they have a pretty place up on a mountain ridge...biggest American bullies I have ever seen anywhere...the final word on Classic Bullies. We're going to hybrid her with Bedford who's a black Hybrid bully...they share the same GreatX2 grandfather

Great puppies...size and endurance

sweet dog....loves wifey and the kids....getting used to us...she's in season next month..will be a new thing for us...I have not done this since 1987 with Rotts

They ought to leave the damn bears alone, unless their invading your home front, as in your case. Different story.

There are bears everywhere, including in the cities and backyards, grizzly bears. Bears wander through the villages like they own the place, look kids over on the playgrounds at schools. You jokers don't have a clue about reality

Hey slick, try reading my previous posts before involuntarily burping out dumb comments.

We only have black bears here.
They are big, confrontational, nasty and have no fear of humans.

“Playing dead” with a black bear who’s charging you will not work.

You will just wind up “for real dead”.

In W.MD they had to fight for the right to kill the ones that were trashing their houses, killing their pets and livestock and just wreaking general mayhem.

The people fighting their rights were those who live down in the suburbs, who’d never even seen a black bear in the wild.

[Walt Disney Syndrome]

We offered to ship a few hundred down their way but they didn’t care for that idea, overmuch.

It ended up being a moot point because the bears are showing up down in the DC/Balto suburbs now.

“Suddenly”, they’re not so cute and cuddly any more.

Irony is so ironic.

She’s a beauty.

I can’t wait to see what wild color combinations come out of that breeding....:)

Odin’s a BBbb and will most likely only throw black pups.

[at least I hope so...I’m hoping to find a BB bitch to guarantee it]

I ate the damned robin I mistook for a grouse

As illegal as it is, I have known people who made a habit of specifically looking for robins to shoot and eat. Said they were one of the most delicious birds out there.

really?....I haven't tried one since but as I remember it it was dark meat similar to woodcock which I've eaten tons of when I had my ol’ handsome hunting dog....When I had to put my dog down due to old age...I kinda lost the taste for woodcock as well...The hunt and the meal went hand in hand...

Bear 1, Hunter 0.

Uh, the bear was killed by the hunters. So far, the hunter is still alive.

The Alaska State Department of Fish and Wildlife is advising hikers, hunters, fishermen, and golfers to take extra precautions and be on the alert for bears.

They advise people to wear noise-producing devices such as little bells on their clothing to alert but not startle the bears unexpectedly. They also advise you to carry pepper spray in case of an encounter with a bear.

People should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear droppings.

Black bear droppings are smaller and contain berries and possibly squirrel fur.

Grizzly bear droppings have little bells in them and smell like pepper spray.

I suppose. The idea of eating bear meat is just plain disgusting. Might as well eat dog meat too. Or cat meat. Besides, I have a hard time believing someone is going to eat an entire 1000lb animal.

Yep... I’m not a trophy hunter. Only thing I came close to a trophy hunt was for Bison in mid 1980’s with a old winchester highwall in 45-70.

Harvested all the meat an the robe was kept as was the head mount. It was something I just wanted to do. It was part of a project to cull the herds so I was picked in a draw.

Was not unlike walking up to a whiteface hereford an tackin it with a bolt gun. But it was meat for the freezer.

The Unsers of Al an Bobby family of Indy racers were big in the beefalo hybrids over in NM . Bought 3 of those while stationed there. Good meat.

While stationed in Alaska I packed a remingtom 870 with slugs while fishing. Later in that deployment I traded to a double barrel 12 gauge as it was shorter, faster into play an had two firing pins vs one.

Bears in drought areas are mean as well. I don’t mess with em. Even the little cinnamon bears of NM.

Aim for the nose for the stop shot....:o)

Stay Safe WD...

"you never know...when I was a boy at Lake Bruin(go figure) Louisiana we had swamp blacks that rifled garbage and dead fishlines and stuff..not sure if any are still there or not..."

There are so many that they are considering some sort of limited season. On our farm bordering the Tensas NWR, I get 3 times as many bear on trail cam as I do deer.

So is “baiting” allowed in Alaska or was Perkins hunting illegally? ;-)
