Bachmann Steps Up To Fill 2012 GOP Void

Tea party favorite Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., is very close to tossing her hat in the ring for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination and may announce her candidacy in May rather than June, as initially expected.

Bachmann also revealed Tuesday that she has spoken with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee since his decision not to run, but she would not disclose what they discussed.

The recent announcements of Huckabee and business mogul Donald Trump that they would not run appear to have created a political void that a social and fiscal conservative such as Bachmann possibly could fill.

A former federal tax attorney, Bachmann sounded as if she were on the verge of announcing her candidacy.

“Our phones have been ringing off the hook,” Bachmann told Fox News on Tuesday afternoon. “Our Facebook has been lit up. Our donations are pouring in. And people are saying, ‘Michele, jump in, we want you to run.’”

So strong is the groundswell from the grass roots, she said, that she may accelerate her timetable for revealing her plans.

“We had announced earlier we had been looking at a June entry date, for a decision one way or the other, about this race,” said Bachmann, who has made several recent trips to early GOP primary states. “Possibly, we may move that up.”

Bachmann, founder and chairwoman of the House Tea Party Caucus, could prove to be a formidable force in Iowa, where social conservatives are very influential. She told Fox that she has received “overwhelming” support during recent visits there.

Among the enthusiastic phone calls that Bachmann says she’s received: unnamed political gurus boasting national reputations who are encouraging her to run.

“I’ve had former presidential advisers call me and say, ‘Michele, you should consider jumping in,’ she told Fox.

Talk to me when she gets more than 5% in a national poll.

She’s getting ahead of herself. Being a Tea Party fav and getting the nomination for the most powerful seat in the world are two different things.

With the recent onslaught of wishful thinking Palin vanities cluttering the forum lately, here is some actual and factual information to feast on.

From a real candidate who has actually shown a genuine effort to seek the nomination. Nothing to speculate here, just a genuine contender.

There is one major reason I like Bachmann. She takes the true conservative stance on immigration. She is very clear about it.

The rest ain’t too shaggy either.

Best one out there of the current field. Even against Herman Cain. Got to hear both on radio yesterday as Michele Bachmann was on near the end of Hannity’s lame radio show and Herman Cain was on hour 2 of Rusty Humphries. If they both ran together on a ticket that would be impressive.

It will take time for the smoke to settle from Huck and Trump.

I suspect her sudden surge from her headquarters are Huck supporters encouraging her to get into the race.

That is what she needs most right now, to get some name recognition. A debate or two would also do her some good.

Most of her base was/ is going for Palin and Huckabee. With everyone going Palin, Palin, Palin the support went to Palin. Nothing wrong in that, but what if Palin doesn’t run? Plus now that the media wants to ignore Palin, what for them after Bachmann announces to go Bachmann, Bachmann, Bachmann, Bachmann. She will replace Trump and Palin as the most said name on cable news.

In a match-up against Obama, Bachmann beats Palin by 3 points. Considering her weak name recognition at this point, she has real potential to become a front runner.

So like goofy Hannity was a target when he exposed Rev. Wright, Rush was a target when he wanted Obama to fail, Beck was a target when he said Obama was racist, Palin a target since she was picked as VP nominee in 08, Trump when he questioned Obama’s background, and the Tea Party since it began. I expected Bachmann to be target number one after she makes her run official on every leftist network. The left needs bogeymen and Michele will be the next target. Even Rush said so the other day. The DNC TV is ready with coordinated opposition to Michele Bachmann’s run.

A former federal tax attorney,

BFD.
Good for her, but not a predictor of leadership success.

She’s too green for Potus and maybe even too green for VP.

Agree with your points. Right now, of the ‘names’ that are out there, Palin has my vote if she asks for it. However, she has -not- asked for my vote. If she does not, and Bachmann does, it is Bachmann’s.

It would be foolish to underestimate Bachmann. This woman is a force of nature.

It will take time for things to pan out and to see what happens in the GOP field. She did luck out with Trump and Huckabee leaving because she can pick up supporters.

You are right that she needs name recognition because the Lame stream media has been trying to mention as little as it can about her since 2009. A debate would help.

You assume that a stronger name recognition and a greater airing of her foot in mouth disease will translate to a greater popularity. Not necessarily so.

Palin has my vote as well if she runs. But if not Bachmann.

Save your critical assessments for the candidate you support. In which case, there is more than ample contradiction in regards to putting the proverbial “foot-in-one’s-mouth” approach.
