Air Force 1 is a Boeing 747-200B. All B-747s are equipped with autoland, depending on the options and model some are equipped for Cat III.
Perhpas a mechanical failure, or crosswind too high for autoland?
Something doesn't smell right, how does this thing not have all the latest and greatest don't ask what I do for a living bells and whistles in the Front Office, i.e. FLIR or whatever....
"6" is long, (yes I am famliar with the field) Could it have been a biological? i.e. a Deer near the runway. Another field in the area (back in the day..) had DNR permits with special hunts via lottery with the meat donated to homeless shelters etc. since the deer were becoming a problem on the field....
