Brent Bozell: ‘It’s Time the GOP Step Up or Move Aside’
CNSNews ^ | May 18, 2011 | Michael W. Chaplin

(CNSNews.com) – America is at a crossroads and the Republican Party must show bold, courageous leadership at “this moment” to keep the country from sliding further down the path to European-style socialism, said Brent Bozell, chairman of ForAmerica, who added that, “It’s time the GOP step up or move aside.”

“The GOP leadership, and most especially its presidential candidates, need to get with the program,” said Bozell in a post at the ForAmerica Web site on Wednesday. “If the GOP is incapable of articulating a vision that returns America to Constitutional conservatism, then maybe conservatives should start thinking the unthinkable: a new party.”

Bozell noted that the Founding Fathers faced a similar crossroads: submit to the British or fight back for “freedom, individual responsibility and the pursuit of happiness.” Today, he said, President Barack Obama and “the radical Left” are pushing America deeper into welfare state socialism through “ObamaCare, bailouts, and calls from Democrats for trillions of dollars in new taxes to pay for evermore reckless federal spending.”

The Republican Party, meanwhile, is “gliding,” said Bozell, with weak leadership by many senators and “growing indecision” in the House of Representatives despite the electoral victory in November 2010. In addition, some GOP leaders are issuing “bold” statements only “to defend their own leftist records, or to attack the few Republicans who are putting forward serious proposals to save America,” he said.

“Conservatives are fed up with this nonsense,” said Bozell. “The American people do not want ObamaCare and they do not want NewtCare. The American people wholly reject the individual mandate [to buy health insurance], whether it comes from Barack Obama or Newt Gingrich.”

Concerning the criticism leveled on Sunday’s Meet the Press by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich against current House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan’s (R-Wisc.) plan to reform Medicare and his budget for fiscal year 2012, Bozell said, “Is the Ryan plan perfect? No -- but it is serious, and it is bold, and it is courageous, and it would reverse the slide to economic ruin and socialism set by President Obama. Paul Ryan deserves the highest applause from conservatives, but rather than acknowledge that he is busy pulling the arrows from his back.”

“There is no luxury of time to debate and discuss and, as usual, postpone the tough decisions,” said Bozell. “They are upon us. Will we continue on the path to European socialism, or will we once more be a nation based on individual freedom, a virtuous and principled society and limited government? It’s time the GOP step up or move aside.”

ForAmerica is a non-profit group organized to educate Americans about this country’s principles and values. Brent Bozell, in addition to being chairman of ForAmerica, is president of the Media Research Center, the parent company of CNSNews.com.

I was in DC at a Republican leadership conference last week and I have to tell you that the Washington Republican establishment has its talking points. To paraphrase: This is the most important election of our lives, don’t vote for the kooks.”
They have no clue as to the level of anger out here in the Country.

And, of course, by their definition WE are kooks, too.

Olog-hai :"As far as Bozell’s references to Europe’s socialism; as a Catholic, he ought to know that the church doesn’t have a problem with it."

Trailerpark Badass advises Olog-hai that:" You’re a moron."

Acapesket then chides Olog-hai: "WTF? I am winning the future here, who gives a rat’s ass what the Europeans think? The only Catholics/Christians left in Europe are in Rome. The rest are being sucker punched by the ROP! Buzz off."

Apropos of nothing Olog-hai taunts Acapesket : "Is that you, Nancy Pelosi . . . ?"

Olog-hai explains to Trailerpark badass): "You’re a moron" ---------- "You must be a liberal then.""

Then Roccus jumps in and inexplicably tells Olog-hai: "...and you must belong to the KKK"

Surely this was one of the least cogent exchanges I've seen here.

Thank You, all.

I don’t believe Conservatism benefits the leadership of the GOP at this time. I think we must accept that the party is a lost cause, and face the new challenge.

They will counter once Conservatives announce it’s time for a change, but like all Leftists they will counter with lies to buy time.

It’s time to hit ‘em up the side of the head with a two by four as the old cliche goes, and see the reaction. We need the RINO faction out of the drivers seat.

If we’re going to have three parties lets change the labels...the Constitution Party 9formerly the Tea Party), the Communists (formerly the Democrats), and the Liberals (formerly the Republicans.)

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. ... Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem."

Most members in the republican leadership and this includes those running for POTUS, are socialists to one degree or another, but socialists none the less.

Just look at what they have supported the last 30 years.

I don't disagree with any of this. It's just too bad it is Bozell saying it and not someone with a little more clout who could get the ear of some of the tone-deaf Republicans. Granted, they only have 1/3 of the branches of government, but their performance has been truly disappointing so far.

While I would say patience is truly a virtue. I don’t believe we have any time left. If we don’t get a Republican in the WH in 2012 I doubt any of us will ever see a Republican President again.

My sentiments exactly. Bozell is now my hero. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a Repub candidate saying these things? I mean, not just saying them to get the right's votes, but actually meaning them?

You are probably right but this is their last chance. If they keep going in the same direction, they WILL face a powerful third party from now on.

I supose plan B is to help the liberals crash the entire system while we prepare and position ourselves to rebuild.

I wouldn’t condone or suggest helping them crash anything. That’s their tragedy that they’ve chosen to unleash on the nation. Let them own it.

Now, on the other hand, being prepared for the crash and positioned to rebuild, that’s the smartest thing we could be doing right now. Because the crash is coming for sure, but the recovery is open to the strongest, most organized, and most willing.

Think of it this way, right now many of our republican “moderates” and/or leaders are gambling that we will have no one to choose but them just giving them leway enabling them to take half measures which ultimately prolong the situation rather then solve the problem.

And if you think about it that really is the game they play. politicians no more like to actually resolve problems then the rest of us cause that means they have to be creative and deal with an entirely new political battle-scape.

Fortunately we hardline conservatives now have a 3rd option that is creatable. We can help the left collapsible the Federal Government while we prepare ourselves and our states to win he resulting conflict.

We may not be numerous enough to win, thou replacing with people who will do our bidding but we don’t really have to replace them. The enemy’s shortsightedness is providing us with an alternate path towards victory.

Meaning they either stick to their guns and end this fight or a minority of us will simply go to the alternate solution.
