Is it really Obama's Secret Service? I thought these guys were career agents who would have been around in the Bush administration and will be around for whoever's president in 2013.

Not real.

What do you mean?

https://twitter.com/#!/SecretService is a real, verified account. CNN has the story of the Secret Service apologizing for the anti-Fox tweet.

I can’t stand Ted Baxter-O’Reilly’s pompous bleating either - if that was the task maybe the Agent should get hazard pay.

What exactly is the reason for the Secret Service having a twitter account? What a waste.

“......the Agent should get hazard pay.”

That’s a scream! Funny! I give SS agents on the WH beat a LOT of room for grumbling considering their charge in the Oval.

Don’t know what’s funnier, the tweet itself or listening to the local SF news stations breathlessly hyping the story as it’s 11PM lead.

The tweet was made via iPad

If it had been a blackberry, it would probably have been Obongo himself.

This is made up right?

If this is true, it does NOT reflect well on the SS.

May be I am looking at this all wrong. May be the threats against Obama have lessened to allow the SS time to watch TV and Twitter. Sheesh, it's so comforting knowing that the SS is depending on MSM for informatiom. Depressing if true.

” Why would the SS need to monitor FOX News.....” ======

Monitoring FOX is a staffers job, which gives credence to the story that something criss crossed but it was not the SS agents tweet. I’m not inclined to buy the agent tweeted.

Frankly, it would be troubling if the SS were asked to monitor Fox, or any news network for that matter. A staffer I could understand.

Actually, I believe the President is a self-confessed technology illiterate: “I have an iReggie, who has my books, my newspapers, my music all in one place.”

It's worse:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blogpost/post/secret-service-not-a-fox-news-fan/2011/05/18/AFpp7g6G_blog.html

“The Secret Service got back to a request for comment. Turns out, it was a mistake.

Their statement: “An employee with access to the Secret Service's Twitter account, who mistakenly believed they were on their personal account, posted an unapproved and inappropriate tweet. The tweet contained no vulgarity, security or pertinent agency information. The tweet did not reflect the views of the U.S. Secret Service and it was immediately removed.

“We apologize for this mistake, and the user no longer has access to our official account. Policies and practices which would have prevented this were not followed and will be reinforced for all account users. We will ensure existing policies are strictly adhered to in order to prevent this mistake from being repeated, and we are conducting appropriate internal follow-up.”

Comforting that the SS can't keep gate crashers out of the WH or unauthorized employees off their Twitter Account.

Yes, like having the landscaper posted at the White House gate of entry. Not a logical fit.

I for one looked back 10 days and didn't see the tweet. However from the link you provided I see that they deleted it.

According to the agency, the tweet was "immediately removed" and an "internal follow-up" is underway.

Over two years in and it's still Amateur Hour at the WH.

Agreed—Greta does the best interviews in prime time. I like O’reilly for the entertainment factor, but could live without Hannity in the evening. Radio is enough.
