Another Republican operative said he had spoken with an old friend of Gingrich's in the South who had been planning a fundraiser for the campaign.
There were 18 co-chairs for the event until Gingrich's appearance on "Meet the Press" Sunday, where he labeled Rep. Paul Ryan's (R-Wisc.) proposed budget "radical" and "right-wing social engineering."
"He said like 13 of them dropped off within 24 hours of 'Meet the Press,'"

Sometimes I think our party needs to be put on suicide watch.
Hopefully, just the rinos and then we can let Joe Biden and Maria Shriver do the watching...
Newt just needs to go away. He never had a chance to begin with, and then he went and stepped on his wang. Stick a fork in him, he’s done.
Who you gonna believe: Newt, or your lyin’ ears?
Seems this cycle’s GOP donors will NOT ignore the perpetual Party elite backed betrayal of conservatives! Wouldn’t THAT be a delightful trend.

It was the phrase “right-wing social engineering” that effectively ended Gingrich’s prospects. Many people were no doubt wondering when Gingrich was going to denounce Republicans for supporting “right wing activist” judges. Oh well, at least Gingrich didn’t waste a lot of Republican dollars before he imploded. His candidacy was mercifully quick.
Its hard for me to believe that the Pelosi couch debacle didn’t turn off all conservatives to Newt forever. That they were going to throw him a fundraiser in the first place is just plain weird.
I heard Newt doing some backtracking... and the interview with Greta about his Tiffany’s tab.
Newt sounds like a lunatic.
There's no fool like an old fool.
Newt kicked himself in the ass before he even got started....Hang it up!
I heard Hannity defend his buddy Gingrich. A caller got through this week and railed on Newt. Hannity said...”I want all of the candidates to have an equal chance through debate blah, blah”. Very generic response. Gingrich, McCain and Rove are on all the time. It’s like Rino paradise.
The Republicans need a battle royale’ to sift the weak. Bring in as many as possible so the right can go through all the possibilities.
For better or worse, this Newt incident will probably join Ed Muskie crying in New Hampshire and George Romney being brainwashed on a trip to Vietnam as moments when well known presidential hopefuls imploded.
"The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits." - Albert Einstein
I think the GOP mastermind is trying to find both limits. We've seen one, and I shudder to think how far he'll pursue the other.
True Colors (shining through)...wasn’t that a song by Cindi Lauper?
So long, Newtie. Go back to the think tank and bide your time until the next wife-swap...
Before this page loaded and I could read your comment, I thought of the sarcastic post: “Newt sure is smart.” and you effectively beat me to it, but I can’t help myself. Damn.
He is a global warming nut, support farm subsidies (pandering Iowa) and opposes spending cuts. Oh, and he was cheating his wife.
Strong platform perhaps, but wrong party.
Newt needs to climb back under his rock
hubris [ˈhjuːbrɪs], hybris
n
1. pride or arrogance
2. (Literary & Literary Critical Terms) (in Greek tragedy) an excess of ambition, pride, etc., ultimately causing the transgressor's ruin. See Gingrich, Newt.
[from Greek]
Indeed it would!
I watched a video of Newt, down in Mexico, speaking fluent spanish, promising the Mexicans at this particular gathering, immigration reform.
Woop...der it is. Done.
Since then, I've seen more evidence that Ol Newt's not what he appears to be. In fact, looks like he’za a big ol globalist pos.
Personally, I think all those who are running who have run and lost in the past should drop out now. NO more Newt’s, NO more Ronmey’s, NO more Paul’s, NO more Santorum’s and probably No Palins. We need a candidate that can fire up not only the Conservatives, but also the Independents. None of these folks can do that. I thought that Herman Cain and Gary Johnson were the clear winners from the SC debate.
“Prior to running for office, Gingrich had been Southern regional director for Nelson Rockefeller in 1968.” -Wiki
Without a doubt, Hannity will be the last Republican in the country to realize Newt’s campaign is finished — as it should be.
You might add “Dukakis in the tank!”
Just what would attract flies in the first place?
Newt on Greta was like he was reading from the wrong script. At the end of the show, when he invited her to come out to Iowa and see his huge adoring crowds, it reminded me of the scene where Zoolander takes the stage and begins his cocky victory speech, without listening to the announcer or realizing that he actually lost.
Greta’s poker face was great, but you could tell she was biting her tongue to keep from laughing. She clearly though he was being ridiculous, but she was as professional and polite as can be. Even hopeful that he’d grab one of the lifelines she threw him and try to pull himself out of the pit. Instead, all he threw out of the ditch was more dirt.
I’ve begged Newt to do the right thing, and stay out of this. People aren’t in the mood for establishment addicts.
if newton’s intellect were so keen, he would drop out of the race. what a putz.
Announce the Gingrich McCain ticket now. Don't wait Newt. Be Bold.
We should all be grateful that Gingrich revealed himself now and not after he sucked up valuable resources. Although, anyone that doesn’t know by now he’s a RINO is an idiot.
Oh, yeah, how could I have forgotten? There's probably a few more that came close to those three in destroying a campaign.
Especially these Republican donors who obviously have more money than sense!
Dropping like flys in the Clinton White House.
It is a shame as intellectually he is among the best. The man’s great flaw is his character and more specifically his lack of self governance. He should drop out of the race.
Aaaata this point I think I’ll go with true conservative the Tea Paty comes up with, if and when they do.
To the author:
The National Association of Dipterid Insects takes exception to your implication that we would be associated, even indirectly, with the Gingrich campaign.
Our members may spend much of their short lives rooting around in human excrement and waste, but we have some standards.
Signed,

Palin has never campaigned for national office....McShame's campaign(?) operatives shut her campaigning off very quickly in 2008.
In 2010, she campaigned very well for others. In 2012 she will campaign for America, whether she declares or not. I do believe that she will, but not until late this year....Say October????
I say we let Palin stay and make the media go away.
Newt will have to break it to Callista that it doesn’t look like she’ll be First Lady after all. And the Tiffany’s bling is going to have to go back.
You know, I think I’m going to have to call his campaign and give them this tip. I might have to read off post to keep from laughing.
