May 19, 2011 (WLS) -- The U.S. Centers for Disease Control is urging people to be ready for a zombie apocalypse, or any other possible disaster, by having emergency kits on hand.

The emergency kit, the CDC says, should include several days' worth of water; food; medications; tools and supplies like a utility knife, duct tape and battery-powered radio; sanitation supplies such as towels, clothing, bedding, first aid supplies and important documents.

The CDC also urged residents to have an emergency plan in place

Pretty funny. But the emergency kit is good planning for any natural disaster, let alone the dreaded zombie peril.

Our emergency plan can’t be posted. Why would I do that?

My “zombie apocalypse kit” is a Mossberg 590a1 shotgun, complete with M9 bayonet.

Got all the zombie supplies I need. A large steel safe full of guns, thousands of rounds of ammo, two years worth of MREs, and a military-grade powerless water filtration system.

When zombies are hungry they won't stop until they get food (i.e., brains),

So liberals have a natural means of protection from Zombie attack, no brains.

...and a military-grade powerless water filtration system.

You mind sharing details? I've been looking for a good method of purifying water from my pond for drinking if (when) the SHTF.

Me and the wife live all alone in a little old shack we call our own (back in the mountains that is). We have a constant flow of fresh water and plenty of food. She shoots a .38 and I shoot a .45, 12ga. M4 and plenty of things to feed each. Outside roams 4 very large dogs (early warning). So we’ll make love and let the others make war.

Sigh. Time to buy more ammo. Good thing we just got the truck paid off.

Can't the government just issue "brain stamps" for them to get all the brains they want at the grocery store? And not the cheap brains you and I would have to eat if we paid for them. No, they'll get USDZ (US Department of Zombies) prime grade bains.

I'll bet the zombie survival guide didn't mention the need to be armed.

A good simple alternative is a Doulton gravity-fed portable water filter. They can treat clear and turbid water from lakes, rivers, ponds and mud holes, and are able to filter for microbiological, chemical and heavy metals. However, they are more small scale. I did find an article some time back on how to construct a powerless filtration system for large scale filtration (130 gallons/hour). Check the link below

Best of luck, and remember, aim for the brain.

I would tell everyone the price, but it isnt good to brag.

I'll check those out - thanks!

This is one I am considering: http://www.katadyn.com/usen/katadyn-products/products/katadynshopconnect/katadyn-water-filters-endurance-series-products/katadyn-drip-gravidyn/. Kinda pricey though.
