WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) - First lady Michelle Obama urged more than 1,000 cadets Friday night on the brink of graduating to keep in mind the families of the soldiers they will lead. Obama addressed the white-clad cadets and their families gathered in the U.S. Military Academy's castle-like mess hall for a graduation-eve banquet. It marked her first visit to the storied academy and dovetails with her recent work on behalf of military families.
She noted that more than half of service members are married and 40 percent have two or more kids.

I never heard of the first lady speaking to Cadets/Midshipmen about to graduate before from the Academies. Is this normal? Seems very rude and creepy. Especially if they have aids asking the cadets who their parents voted for.
At least the cadets have personally seen who they must handcuff if it comes to that.
Just another reminder of the damage the “hope and change” drooling half wits did to our America.
IMO..This was not the place of any Presidents “wife”. I wonder who and what she had to pull off to get this under her hat?
These guys deserved someone with success under their hat...what has Michelle accomplished that warrented her that “Honor” of addressing these fine young men...nothing! There is nothing military about her.
I think you saying her being there was an ‘Intrusion’ is correct. May the parents of these fine young men recognize there are many significant and successful men who would have loved the pleasure of speaking to them.
What in the world was the West Point administration thinking when they invited Michelle to speak to the graduates? How disgusting!

The didn't have a choice. The military has been run, disparaged and bullied by the anti-war 60's protesters since January 2009.
I’d bet they were told, rather than asked... either that, or some of the career military politicians were looking to get a leg tingle.
Imagine the HELL you would go through to graduate from there (it ain’t no picnic!) ... then on the final day, your “reward” is Michelle Obama as a graduation speaker? What a downer for people who must have worked so hard for this undeserved “reward.”

And there is no mention of the other distinguished visitor’s/presenters during graduation week.
The announcement that she’d be the banquet speaker went out months ago.
If anyone thinks any of these guys and gals are stressing over who speaks/visits this week, think again.
All they are worried about is graduation today and leaving WP after thier long 4 years.

” My oldest son graduates from West Point tomorrow so my wife and I were at her speech. He was pulled aside by one of her mincing aides. He was asked who his parents voted for in the last election and told them he didn’t know. He had to be politically correct in his responses, I don’t.
The speech was fluffy and not inspiring. She said nice things about the cadets and their parents laced with references to West Point history. All I thought of her words about the first time she was proud of our country.
I got the chance to meet many other cadets and their parents. They are the types that make America great. Michelle should not have intruded on their celebration. Some walked out when she started to speak and many did not applaud. The cadets had to be polite.”

Being a 3rd generation vet ( Grandad - WW1 - Dad - Normandy,
me - Vietnam) I know that the real test is in the minds and hearts of those who choose to serve.
Not those who read speeches to gain election results.
That was her point.
Who the heck ARRANGED for her to speak? Who would do this to these cadets??
